Another newbie question regarding portable gray water holding tanks.

My PUP has it's gray water drain (ie. no onboard tank) mounted in the frame approximately 13.5" from the ground.  While I like the portable tanks (Barker Tote-along, Thetford Smart-Totes, etc) they sure are proud of the price!  I'm also concerned about the amount of room the tank during transportation.

What are you using?  Anything collasible like the Covered Bucket Collaspable System.  What about do it yourself setups?  I looked at the Aquatanks but determined they were too tall for my rig.

I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive, room saving tank....

Thanks,
Craig

I use the Aquatainer setup.  I think I've seen shorter plastic water containers before, but don't know where or when.

I agree with the view of the Barker totes.  I can't bring myself to pay $100+ for a plastic jug.

Let me ask ... about how much gray water do you generate, i.e., are we talking a shower or just some dish water?

Just dish water....no shower...not sure how much we generate as we just bought the little fella...

I use the aquatainers, screw a hose Y on the outlet, run short hose up for vent, another into jug. After we got back from witer vacation I looked at the big landury soap jug(300 oz?) thought that would be great for overnite stop.

If you want to save space, you can use the clear collapsible 5 gallon water totes.  The nice thing is you can see how full it is.:)

I need to look at these...how do you hook up a garden hose to them???

You can drill a hole in the cap and then glue a threaded pvc fitting  into the cap.:)

Likewise that's the same for me. And about the only time that the dishes would be done inside using the camper sink is during inclement weather. Otherwise they would be done outside and disposing of that dishwater is the same as with the tent campers ... distrubuting it to some "needy" bushes around the site.

As for a "graywater tank" I use a 5/gal plastic bucket with a lid that has a hole in the center so that a short piece of garden hose (maybe 8"), connected to a 90 degree elbow and then down into the bucket.  In a couple of governement campgrounds (Corps of Engineers), they want the graywater tank "sealed" so I have another lid that will firmly snap onto the same 5/gal bucket but also has a threaded hose connection that I fashioned from the hardware store. Also have another short piece of garden hose that has connections on both ends so that it is connected to the camper and the bucket lid (the elbow from the camper is vented).  So far it has met all the requirements of a "sealed" gray water tank. Should also mention that these Corps of Engineer C/G's also have a dish washing facility for the tenters where there is provided a large stainless steel sink & hot water, along with a large counter area (inside a screened-in, sheltered gazeebo), for washing dishes.  And that's where we do the dishes!  Much, much easier and less hassle than having to tote the 5/gal bucket to the dump site.  However ... if need be, the 5/gal bucket is ready to do it's duty.

Besides ... I've got fish to catch.

I use a 10 gal blue tote with wheels for grey water. Got it almost new and very reasonable at an auction..It hooks up to the galley drain with a 2ft. length of 5/8" garden hose and there are no problems with sink drainage..It is easy to load and carry to the dump station when full..
