Hi everyone,
My friend has an 82 Rockwood with a roof that won't stay up. It cranks up okay. It has a closed lift system but I believe he can access the rachet system by removing some paneling inside. Since he can crank it up I think that is a good sign. We have a trip planned and I was wondering if someone might know of a simple fix.  Thanks

Has your friend tried removing the access panel and spraying the winch mechanism with PB Blaster or Kroil, and then lubing it with Triflow?

Always helps to know what kind of lift system it is that needs the attention ... there are some differences. Maybe this might help a little ~

Thanks All, for your input.

I also have a 1980 Rockwood XL (model RWIDC) popup that the lifting mechanism just broke. One side is up, the other down. I have been having difficulty in finding any information on the lift system. It is a closed system, unlike the newer ones described in the article "CAMPING TRAILERS ROOF LIFT SYSTEMS".  I can see the broken chain near the crank side of the mechanism, but I fear this is the result of something else that went wrong. Any help is appreciated !

If you can't order a new "correct" chain from the manufacturer, you can probably get one that you can make to length from places like //www.mcmastercarr.com or "Applied Industrial Technologies."

I found lift system service bulletin at
http://rvworkshop.com/pop_up_camper_parts.html
that covers my 1976 1981 Rockwoods. Now to find parts !
