We just bought "our" new pop up, a 2001 Coleman Cheyenne.  My question is finding air mattress to fit the bed sizes....77x70 and 77x48.  These are off from the regular size King or Full???  Any suggestions?
I saw a post on using 2 twins with your feet to the inside, but that still would leave a gap or would be slightly oversized.  Does anyone have a problem with a slight (1-2") overhang off the bunk?
Love the site and would appreciate any help.

I was one of the ones who responded about using the two twin mattresses with feet pointing into the trailer. We used strips of foam that I bought at the Fabric store to "fix" any annoying gaps but there were really very few and we hardly bothered with them most of the time.
The best way we actually found to use the air mattresses was to take out the stock mattress entirely, cover the wood base with indoor/outdoor carpet to prevent splinters popping the mattresses, and using the air mattresses on top. It was very easy to set up and pack away.

Do you keep them filled with air all the time or do you unload the air everytime you packup?

Cheryl

We deflate them to pack up.

Related note, in our Utah, which has "King Size" bunkends, we use a Queen size air mattress (on top of our regular mattress), which gives a nice little area of about a foot to tuck stuff next to the canvas.  If you get an air mattress too close to the edge or over, they tend to be tough to get onto.

To All, We went the same route with the air mattress and found some that fit the beds a little too close. They worked great until it rained!! When the water hit the sides that the mattress pushed against the water leaked thru. The sleep was not that great as it was hard to get in and out of.
The best solution is to buy some commercial foam 4"  glue it together and cut it to shape. It is by far the most comfortable sleep we ever had. Sadly we sold the pop up shortly after but it was truly the best solution. Good Luck

When we bought our 1973 Starcraft the roof leaked and the interior was typical 70's orange and brown. I went to sleep outfitters and gave them the foam dimentions that I wanted. I got new foam for the beds and table seats.  Then I went to the fabric store and got new fabric to cover all of them.  I got the foam for about $125.00 and the fabric for $100.00 so now it looks new. and we fixed the roof.

We use the air mattress also. We love it and have never had water leak from it touching the sides.

The air mattress saves weight and increases storage capacity when the PU is closed (over 10 cubic feet).

Our original 3" foam mattress's developed sagging flat spots at the hip and shoulder positions which caused us much turning with light sleep at night and sore hips and shoulders in the mornings. We replaced it with a custom 4" foam mattress that was made by a factory near our town. It's foam is similar to memory foam and is pure heaven to sleep on. I have installed 3/4" blue insulation foam on the bunk ends which provides extra insulation and a smooth surface for the mattress to lie on. We also sealed the mattress in clear plastic before use so it will remain looking new indefinitely and be protected it from any dampness that may occur. The extra 1 3/4" bed height has not made any difference in popping down as there is still plenty of extra room under the roof for the canvas. Camping is not much fun if you and yours cannot get a good nights sleep and any thing you can do to improve it is well worth the money spent......

I guess I must be a little odd!  I love the "firm" mattress feel of our popup stardard mattress.
I sleep better in my popup then anywhere!

Me too!  I sleep real comfortable in the little Starcraft bunks. Another reason to  look forward to spending some time out in the boonies with the camper, I get some real good rest. The combination of sleeping good and being out in the woods next to some river, means great relaxation!  Also, when traveling a distance where an overnight stop-over will be necessary, I'd rather pull into some C/G, not too far off the main highway and pop-up the popup and spend the night in a familar bed and get some comfortable rest, even if it might be a little extra effort. I simply do not rest well the first night, anywhere, in a strange bed.

Another thing just hit me ... when I've had the camper opened in the driveway to clean-out or maybe make a modification or small repair, and it's going to be opened overnight ... I've been known to sleep in the little bugger right there in the drive ... just to "check things out".

I added a layer of foam to my PU mattress and I also sleep better there than in my bed at home.  :)
