Air conditioner/ heaters

We are new to the pop up campers and have a Coleman Sedona and the heat does not seem to get the trailer warm, 10 degree rise from 35 when running for 4 hours.  Is this comon or is there something wrong with the unit?

What kind of heater are you using (brand & model #)?

If it is the A/C with heat strip, it should do better than that. If it is an A/C with heat pump, it should do a lot better than that.

However, if the wind was blowing, that could make a big difference.

I am having trouble getting the info that you requested (son isn't home)however, since it does give some heat so I would think that would elimate a heat strip which leaves a heat pump.  If that is the case then I would assume that a replacement would be needed.  Any thoughts?

5kw heat strip should run 20 to 25 amps .if you have a way to check amp draw.a heat strip (208-230V) can break and go to ground and does not fully heat the entire length of the coil.and will not always pop a breaker.

The "Heat strip" is merely an electric heater that is mounted inside your A/C unit.

A heat pump is your A/C (freon) running in reverse and instead of removing heat from the camper and eliminating it to the outside, it actually "Pumps" heat into the camper by making the evaporator coils hot instead of cold.

Either way, you should see an easy 30-40 degree increase in heat, as long as the wind isn't blowing real hard and pumping the PU full of cold air faster than the heater can produce warm air.

What brand of AC do you have?  

My Carrier Air V heat strip will keep the camper 30 degrees warmer when it is 7 degrees outside (37 inside).  When it is up around 30 degrees outside I get at least 35 degrees warmer (65 in side).  Your unit is not working correctly if it is only warming it up a little bit.

Are we sure this is not a propane furnace?  After reading all of the OP's posts in this thread, I can't find anything that rules out a propane furnace.

In any case, if it's working, a propane furnace would produce more heat than either heat tape or a heat pump.

His heading, "Air conditioner/ heaters" seemed to indicate that it may be a problem in the A/C heater.
