Electrical Converter Problem

We have a 1999 Coleman/Fleetwood Niagra.  I am having a problem with no lights or 12 volt interior power.  I first noticed when I arrived at a site, set up, plugged in and... no interior 12 volt power.  I checked all the fuses at the inside electrical box and there were no battery fuses blown etc.  I do get 110 volt power to the outlets.  Time to research the power converter...  I have a 6700 series power converter, I believe that it is a brand name Magnatex.  The owners manuallsays that if the converter output is overloaded, it has a temperature switch that will blow, and reset in 1 minute after it cools down.  I removed the cover to the fuses and see the converter and I think that I can hear it clicking as it is blowing the overheat switch.

What now? Do I have a short somewhere?  I cant see or find anything.  I removed the 12 volt bulbs (one at a time) and it does not find a problem.  I have checked all wires that I can see and do not see any bare or shorted wires.  Any ideas where I may have a short?  I am a bit scared to take it to the shop with unknown electrical problems.

Any ideas out there?

Toby

Take a second look at your wiring.  I had problems and as it turned out it was a bad ground wire and took out my 12v system, I just rewired it to a solid ground and problem solved.  Also some times my fuse link at the battery hook up acts up, just old wires I guess, when I move it the lites go on and off, replace it and everything is fine.  my trailor is only a 2000, not that old.   Good luck Toby.

Two things, first check the connector going up to the roof (on my 99 sun valley it's on the outside by the left rear lift support) I had a problem with corroded pins. Disconnect and inspect and clean.
Second, if you have the swing level galley, when you lift the galleyoff the counter there is a little black switch. Look in the cabinet underneath and make sure the wires are still connected. This switch shuts off the power to the roof (12V) when you lift the galley. Also check to see if the switch is good. Electrical problems are a pain espcially when they are intermittant. Using a multimeter at the points I suggested may help.
Good luck!
