OK,
I'm going to be the 2000 watt Honda generator and I was wondering what you guys do with your generators when you are away from camp.  I don't really want to keep it in my TV because I will have all kinds of fishing stuff in there and I don't want the gasoline smell.  I was thinking of locking up to the tongue with one of those kryptonite locks.  The generator will be the most valuable item with me except the camper itself.
Thanks

That's what I do. :sombraro:  I use a bike lock cable.

that's about all you can do.  that will keep the honest people honest and keep most thieves away.  if they want it, they will take it.  theft is very low at campgrounds as a general rule and the lock will probably solve most of your problems.

Do these generators have handles that are easily cut?  I have heard of thieves bypassing the lock by cutting the handle off the generator.
Thanks for the reply

WELLLL.................you can always set it up with an explosive device so that when they cut threw the handle it explodes..........

Yes the handle can be easily cut. I keep mine in the TV when I'm not actually using it.

I've got an idea on using an aluminum plate I have. If I made some jaws that locked around the generator feet that bolted through the underside of the plate, and then made the plate long enough to park the TV in it, that should slow a few people down.

My generators are screwed to the roof of my hybrid. You can't see them from the ground and so far, nobody has climbed on top of the camper to look.;)

I guess that I feel like more like tknick. All you can do is stop the "Honest thief". If the bad guys want it bad enough, they'll get it.

If you want to slow them down, all you have to do is wrap a hardened chain or bike lock cable around the generator twice (vertically , through the handle) and put your lock through the chain/cable. Then secure that to the trailer tongue.

Thieves usually work under the cloak of darkness. That's when you can't use the generator anyway (in most CG). I put mine in the TV at night. :sombraro:

Quite frankly, I've never even heard of a generator being stolen.

Wrapping a cable lock around the generator and then slipping another cable lock behind the first cable lock is about the best you can do.  Find a Rubber Maid Tote with a high top and you can put the Honda 2000 in the tote.  I do that when I put my generators in the TV.

And yes the handles can be cut easily. :)
