After pouring over Wheels & Deals, chasing down local ads, perusing ebay auctions, we finally bought a PU from an individual in VA. Made a 5.5 hour drive, looked at this thing in the dark (10 P.M.) and came home with it. 1995 Jayco J-Series 1207.
You got to understand, we didn't know anything about PU's. We've never done anything but backpack / tent camp. Soooo.... the guy says, "You know anything about PU's?"
No.
OK, on the roof here, there's a special sealer that you have to put on it every 2 years. Yada, yada, yada.

The PU's in pretty good shape but, the special sealer turned out to be fiberglass blanket covered with resin. I say it like that because whoever put it on didn't know anything about fiberglass. Anyway, the first day after we get home with it, it rains. I open it up... It LEAKS. Long story short, it stops raining. The leak finally stops. I strip, not only the fiberglass off (I just pull it off by hand) but also metallic tape, duct tape and several types of caulking. I remove the vinyl trim piece that covers the center seam and lightly sand it down to the metal. I next pop rivet a 10" wide piece of alum over the seam, seal it, paint the roof with Kool Seal, and replace the trim. I realize that eventually I'll probably have to completely redo the roof but it looks good now and we've got 5 days to prepare for our 2 1/2 week camping excursion to the GA coast.

It's all gonna be OK. I'm about to the point where we can start "personalizing" it instead of repair & maintenance. Whew!

Congratulations on the new-to-you PU!

You'll have to share some pictures of your "personlizations"!  I bought our 1207 2 years ago and it really works for us.  It has a great floorplan ~ plenty of room for all 5 of us and our stuff!
