I did a search of the site looking for advice on lifting my new Jayco Select 12 HW. I didn't find anything so I figured I'd ask the masses and see what happens. I'm looking to lift my new PUP by 3 - 4 inches to help avoid clearance problems when dragging it over small burms and such.

When I bought it the dealer said they wanted to lift one and offered to make me a deal since they hadn't done my model yet. They wanted 500-600 to lift it. I'm a beginning fabricator so I figured that was an okay price. Before accepting the deal I stuck my head under the camper to see what the job might involve. From what I saw it looked extremely easy. Two bolts on each side bolt the axle to the frame?? (from memory) I'm assuming all I nee dto do is make a boxed spacer and get some longer grade 8 bolts to secure it with. Has anyone tried this and could you share some lessons learned?

I'll post up pics when I get off my butt and attempt this.

Hi Jeff,

I, too, am looking to lift my popup just a "smidgeon". :)
This is an article that I found... it might help:

If you have a dexter axle on your pop up, you can do an over/under axle swap.  that would give you about 2 inches of lift.  if it's not a dexter axle then I don't have any suggestions.  HERE is the link to dexter's part list.  the over/under is on page 5 part # K71-384-00.

good luck

Oh ok, they go through the side and just make up some plates... That's EASY... It'll take me a few weeks/months to free up some time but when I get it done I'll post up some pics and maybe I can build some plates for others to use (will full disclaimers obviously).

Thanks!

PS the Jayco's use a torsion axle so the over/under swap wouldn't work (that's for leaf springs). The leaf spring is easier to lift (shackles) but I think the torsion lift will look better and won't effect the ride quality (longer shackles alter the spring travel slightly).

Hello, I have a Dexter Torflex axle assembly under my 1999 Heritage Arcadia. It sits too low for comfort. I drag the driveway, landscaping timbers, etc. I called Dexter and spoke to them. The serial number on your axle assembly will tell you the preset angle manufactured into them. (I will call them with the number when I put a second set on). I asked Dexter if the axle assembly would have any adverse reactions to having 2-4" of square tubing on top, to raise the camper. They said no. It will change the way the trailer handles. I am going to take square thick wall tubing (.125" thick) and weld it along the frame. Then reattatch the axle. I will be adding a second axle assembly to help relieve some tongue weight. This will be a fall project since I am in the process of rebuilding the lift system which recently failed. If I did not have so much already invested, this Jayco would go away. However, I will repair with better, stronger designed parts (building a better mousetrap).
