Look at what happened the day before we went camping for spring break!

My neighbor across the street is a nice lady and a friend. She was having a bad day with her four small kids who were crying and fussing as she proceeded to back her Suburban out of her drive way. She slammed into my PU and cracked it into!
I had parked the camper in front of my house on the street so I could pack for our camp trip the next day. The neighbor even admitted she saw me park it there so she knew it was there.
I heard the accident when it happened. I thought, Oh God let that be a kids toy she ran over. but NO! Not my camper! I was in shock.
I was so upset I cried and she cried for hitting the PU. We both stood in the street and cried together.
I unlatched the roof and popped it up. It worked fine. Upon closer inspection I found that the frame, lift system and roof were untouched. So DH and I took pictures, pushed the wall back out, screwed a broken board together, and duct taped the hell out of it, covered the hole with black plastic and went camping anyway. We are diehard PU campers, don't you know!
Of course it rained 4 out of 5 days but the hole stayed dry.
The camper was hit in the only spot that is just a plain wall- right where the table stands so no plumbing, electrical, or cabinetry was damaged.
Luckily my neighbor had insurance that is willing to pay to fix it and they sent us a check. We are just wainting for the RV place to get the parts in so we can get our baby fixed. SNIFF!
I hope they hurry so we can plan our next trip.
Hmmm! I think I'll park in the driveway next time.

Sorry to hear about the accident.  It really is upsetting.  I am glad that you were able to go on your trip and that the insurance paid right away and you didn't have to fight with them.  :)

OH!  Your poor camper ...

It sounds like everything will get taken care quickly.  Glad to hear that.  It only takes 2 of my 4 fussing to get me to not pay attention.  I backed into my own garage door once when 2 of them were with me and fighting!!  whoops.

OUCH!

I'm glad it was your camper, and not a kid...the only reason she didn't see it was because she wasn't looking.  (You explained the reason she wasn't looking.)  A kid on a bike would have been even easier to not see.

Yes! Duct Tape to the rescue!

We were coming home in Jan. 2004 from a LONG trip to Cleveland from S. Indiana to buy our previous pup, a 99 Coleman Mesa. It was in absolutely MINT condition. LIKE NEW! We went that far because the price was right. We just sat and stared at it out our hotel window that night, we were in LOVE! The next morning there was a surprise, SNOW. No one had predicted it, we watched for that. Just an inch or so. But the winds were blowing about 30-40 mph. Got about an hour or 2 down I-70, went over an overpass, and my husband felt something funny in the steering, looked up and the camper had jacknifed over into the other lane, he got it under control but as he was trying to slow down and get off the road we whacked the guardrail - with the camper AND the truck. We were SICK! But all we had to replace was the rear quarter panel behind the door and the back panel, and some of the wood was busted up in a small corner, but was fixable and was covered by couch cushions anyway. BUT when we got home, come to find out that the camper was not covered under the TV insurance like we were told it would be, so it cost us over $500 to fix (we fixed it; would have cost $1000 in labor alone). But right after it happened and my DH was using every cuss word in the book, :swear:  I told him "do you realize how LUCKY we are??? We could have easily been killed or killed someone else. There had been heavy traffic all around us just prior to that, including BIG tractor trailers. Sometimes you just gotta count your blessings!  ;)

BIG OUCH!

Glad it all worked out with ins and all. Kudos to you for not letting it ruin your weekend.

I absolutely sympathize. Many will remember reading my "story." (http://www.arveeclub.com/showthread.php?t=54227&highlight=The+Story)

It sounds like yours took a hit quite similar to ours. Be sure to have the axle examined or you may have tire troubles down the road.

Glad no one was hurt.

OC Campers

I am so sorry to hear about your camper.  Thank goodness it wasn't a car driving by or a child on a bicycle.   I hope it will be fixed and as good as new before the summer camping season.Jacqui

Where do you live ni South Texas. I'm from Portland but my parents no live in Rockport. My wife and I go down there once every few months. We're new to popups and would like to meet people who share the same interest.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. Our "baby" is still at the RV hospital. Don't know what she will look like when she returns. Thought while she was there we would get the wheels greased and the lift system checked out and lubed. AAhh summer maintainence. Gotta get new dust covers for the axels too.
Hurry home little camper! Get well soon. We miss you! Sigh!  :(

bpike, I am in Victoria. I know Rockport well. Love the art scene there. They have a great "art educators days" for teachers at the Art center in January. I always attend that. I am a middle school art teacher. I usually stay at the Inn at Fulton Harbor and eat at Charlotte Plummers. YUM!
Do you camp at Bastrop SP? We love that park. The closest and dearest to our hearts is Lake Texana SP. It is 30 minutes from us and great for quick weekend trips.
Haven't been to Austin in a while but we go to San Marcos frequently to visit DD at TX State U.
