We are going to McGrath this weekend. Anyone wanting to stop by is welcome. The weather should be perfect for a drive up the coast. :S

Does anyone have any recommendations for this CG? This will be our 1st time there. :D

There's a fairly large road that runs next to the CG.  If you can get a spot away from it, the noise will be less.  Can't really hear the waves because of the dunes, but if the wind's blowing in the right direction you can.  All sites are quite similar.  Enjoy!  I'll see you in about 3 weeks up there!

Thanks for the tip :D

We'll be getting there about 2:PM so we should get our choice of sites. We wanted to go to our normal sea-side home at Mugu but it was full.

hatlet

it's not a bad campground, a bit of a walk to the water. when we were there last May it was real windy at the beach.
we're going back memorial day weekend

Camping Coxes

There is a nature walk that you can do on your own, or go on the ranger/docent led one and learn more.  It's pretty cool and really easy.  If it's an older (very much older) lady, she's kind of eccentric, but full of knowledge.  My Girl Scouts weren't quite sure what to make of her!

There's a harbor village type place nearby that has some interesting shops.  Worth visiting, though I guess it won't be all that special of scenery for you like it was for us!

Lastly, don't get off at Victoria (I think that's the way Mapquest takes you) unless you want a tour of the entire city.  Go on to Seaward Road (watch for Carrow's) and get off there, then backtrack along the freeway for about a mile and the entrance is on the right.  Much, much easier way.

You guys get to watch the dead rise...
I haven't been around- I feel buried at work. but I think I might join you this weekend. My boys have been bugging me to go.

We were there in may last year. good kite flying.
The sites further south and west are better in terms of getting to the beach There is a river flowing into an estuary on the north side with some really mucky smelly yuck that the lifeguards chased people out of with recomendations to go take a shower.

I'll contact you after I talk to the boss...

We had a nice but foggy/cloudy weekend with the waverys rescuing me
at just about every turn.
Last year, I went to Mc Grath and the water in the estuary was very low, making a toxic muddy swamp to go around. This year it was too high. A major hike -I never did it- for beach access.
Even a few sites and the signs for the estuary trail were partialy under water. My boys had a blast riding their bikes around and around the site. Their cousin joined us and the 3 of them rode their bikes around and around...
Drove to Ventura Harbor just a minute up the road, the kids got a sandy beach to play in, had a look around the Channel Island visitor center and had had a nice lunch at the shopping center.
Note to self- check propane once in a century (last refill prior to saturday was in 04), get a new battery, bring real wood to start fire or stay near the waverys again... and replace brake controller.
I ended up stopping at a friend's house and borrowing his brake controller to get home.

Thanks again to the Waverlys for bailing me out.

We had a couple of great campfires and got to enjoy the "paspilot" kids.  Look forward to seeing you at another camp-out. :D
