You all have been so very helpful in the past,  I thought you might be able to point me in the right direction on this one....

Any recommendations for campgrounds in the Lake Champlain/Adirondack region of NY?   We are a young family with two small boys and would require water and electric hookups.  Any info or suggestions would be great!

Thanks!!!

I can't tell you where you can camp, but I can tell you to watch out for the water.  Lake Champlain has that big monster called Champy in it.  Kinda like the Loch Ness Monster but American style.  Supposedly lots of pictures of him and they have a big day with parades for him.  Good luck with the camping but don't go swimming.

Oh, my! I grew up in the Lake Champlain area and many members of my family still live in the area, including a brother who has a home on Lake Champlain. I hope McCampers was looking to have some fun with his/her reply. You having an encounter with Champy is about as likely as me winning the MegaMillions jackpot. A parade for Champy is a great tourism gimmick.

The parks I am familiar with are in the Plattsburgh area. Go to //www.reserveamerica.com, select New York State and then do searches for the following campgrounds: Cumberland Bay - just outside of Plattsburgh with a great beach on Lake Champlain and  AuSable Point -located in the center area of the lake. There is also Macomb State Park in the region but it is not on Lake Champlain. I worked there for six summers as security and am quite familiar with the campground.  There is  a nice beach and a pond with the best sites being on the lower loop near the water. The only other state campground on the lake that I know of is Crown Point at the southern end of the lake. You can check that out at Reserve America as well. I am not familiar with this campground but do know the area. There are some historical sites nearby and you are about an hour north of Lake George here.

Another option for you is to see what is on the Vermont side of Lake Champlain. However, I think you would find AuSable Point, Cumberland Bay or Crown Point to be nice sites. Good luck.
