Hello,

Has anyone camped at Lake Jennings in San Diego County?? Or how about Lake Morena also in SD County..? I'm thinking of taking the kids, boys, 5 & 7 for a few nights in July, rent a boat and do some fishing.

Any help / reviews would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks,

We camped at Jennings years ago.  It's a little sparse as far as shade goes, so bring your own.  It has a dock the kids can fish off of, or you can rent a boat.  They have a great nature program -- if the bird lady is there, you have to go see her!  She does a talk about once a month and we caught her talk twice.  The kids loved it.  There is also a grocery store and Wal-mart nearby -- with my family, a trip isn't complete unless we have to go to Wal-mart at least once!
I don't remember what the bathrooms were like, but they must not have been horrible or I'd remember!

Lake Jennings is great for the kids. July is super hot though. We camped the for a couple nights last July & it got up to 110 degrees. We also went there for Thanksgiving. That was much nicer.
My boys are 5 & 8 and they had fun there.

We normally get Site 25. It's close to the restrooms. They have FREE hot showers there. Your kids will like the covered play area within a short walk of your site.

We are trying Guajome the end of June for 3 nights.

I forgot about the heat, but now that you mentioned it, we usually went in August and one year it was so hot by 9:00 AM that we packed the kids and went to Coronado and let them play in the water.  Too hot to stick around.

Something else about Jennings is there is an outlet of land into the lake that is accessible to the campers.  It's a nice hike for the kids.  BUT -- do not let them take their scooters down the hill to it, because no matter how many times you expalin to them the physics of fast rolling wheels not being able to transition from asphalt to gravel, as well as the physics of what happens tp the body riding said scooter when those wheels dig into the gravel, they will try to ride down that hill.  Yeah, personal experience -- it wasn't pretty.  My 16YO still has gravel in his skin, I swear, and he was about 10 then.
