Not camping related but never ran into this

DD ran into a problem with her Altima after she got to Florida.  Estimate to repair, $2000, (muffler and pipes, alternator, motor mounts, tire alignment, etc.) so we decided to look at new cars.  The Altima is a 2000 with 150,000 miles and has been a great car.

To make this short. she went to one dealer and he offered her $1,000 for the Altima as a trade.  THEN he deducted $500 for DETAILING the Altima so he can put it on his lot.  (This car is destined for the auction block or to a used car dealer).

I have never heard of a dealership doing this.  I had a good laugh over it.

By the way, DD did buy a new Sentra, but not at this dealership.

I have seen a lot of dealer shuffling but this is a new one to me.

I have never heard of that. I'm curious as to what the dealer you bought from gave you for trade and did you let the other dealer know who they lost the sale to?

I am not sure but it was around $1400. DD and DW did all the negotiating with some phone calls between us.  They are in FL and I am in NH.  I am pretty proud of the way they handled themselves because of the way they were treated by various salesman.  They actually negotiated a price below what we were willing to pay. :)

Dealer did contact me via email and I let him know that he had lost a sale.  He knew where the car was bought because I had told him of the other dealer.

In another side note, I used the internet to get quotes from three dealers.

1.  One gave me the quote over the phone.  He was the above dealer.

2.  Other two would not give me a quote unless I came into the showroom.  All kinds of reasons why it would be best.

Another thing I was not aware of with the special financing programs, there is a minimum that you have to finance in order to get the low rate.  On this one, you had to finance above 7000 to get the rate of 2.9% and $1000 rebate.

You know what you get for nothing right?

Some people still think something.

Everyone gets what they pay for, sooner or later.
