All ay gotta do is pretend to be heavily asleep when the 3 y.o. has to go "potty" in the middle of the night the first long weekend shake down trip and I will bet you dollars to donuts that HE will be the one buying the port a potty for the next trip.  Worked for me the first time we went in our first of three pop ups.  LOL

We have a cassette potty and wouldn't do without it. My 6 year old grandson doesn't like to go in the ladies room with me anymore and I worry about him in the men's room by himself. We've given him all the warnings but still you never know. I am so glad he can use ours in the safety of our own campsite.

We had a 2002 Utah and DH built in a potty for me. Then we hung a shower curtain for "privacy". Used it for 5 years and recently was contacted by the new owner that thinks it's just great.

Here's the link to the project:

Congratulations on the new pu!  We had a new pu with the potti/shower combo and loved it.  Ours also had the dinnette slide and what a difference it made for space.  I am sure you will all be happy with it.  Hope you make lots of memories.

We got the built in CP in both our PUT's because we have young kids (they were potty training in the beginning) and needed a convenient potty.  We loved it and got lots of use.  We got the CP/shower in our 2nd and loved it even more.  The Cassette is easy to clean and isn't that gross to empty/clean.  (although it wasn't DH's favorite job by any means.)

I have to agree with DH on the porta potti; I too am grossed out of the thought of leftovers setting inside the trailer in an unsealed container.   I like our seconds contained in a nice and neat package for dh to take care of later.

Another thought, is that if you purchase a unit with a built in potti, you can write the interest off on your taxes as a 2nd home.

Go with the potti. Have 3 young boys (7 yr, 4yr and 2yr) and has been great. We only use it at night and maybe early morning.  We keep it maintained and does not give off a smell at all. Good to have when going to State Parks in Colorado where vault's smell awful and can smell it a mile away.  Good luck!
