Ok... Let's back up to make sure we're all on the same page. The page I located through Google was to a forum post about a guy who said that year, make, and model of the tow vehicle could go to 3,800lbs tow rating with a factory tow package installed. I don't know if he's right, I was just relating what I'd found.

I'm still not 100% clear on whether your friend's Caravan did or did not have a factory installed tow package. If he did, then I'm a little confused why he'd be missing the 7-pin connector. So, either he doesn't have the tow package installed and his tow rating is like 1,800 lbs, or you can get a tow package installed and not get the 7-pin connector. I don't know.

Now, the tow rating of a vehicle shouldn't have anything to do with the fact that you can or can't get a 7-pin installed with an aftermarket brake controller. I think it's odd that they said it would interfere with the ABS since many vehicles with 7-pin tow connectors have ABS. Maybe they know something I don't though.

At any rate, if the Caravan is not rated to tow the trailer, then don't do it. With or without a brake controller makes no difference.

my understanding is that he has every thing(tranny cooler ,engine and etc)except the harness....what gets me the most is that prior to buying the 05 rockwood .he talk to them at the stealership and they confirmed the tranny cooler and other items that are important for the towing that weight.

they are coming from tenn 3hrs for them .we are driver from fla 10 to 12 hrs for us...the commander(w/ABS) now has the prodigy 90185 controller...and we cant wait to get to the mtns...we have an 05 rockwood premier 2302.they have the next model up in the premeir series

update apparently D/C service has been shamed into do the job installing the harness(that could not be done before)and they will keep there warranty on the vehicle...UNBELIEVABLE........
