Quote from: A2SuperCrewMaybe I didn't allow enough time for my eyes to adjust.  I walked out from the fully-lit house out to the dark camper to check out the lights.  I think the blue hue of the light makes it a little harder for me to see a small paperback book too.  Thanks for the link to superlumination.com.  I like the price, and may go there for two more so each overhead has two.  I'm thinking a yellow array would be good for the outside light as well. Cheers!

I want to do the same thing for the exterior light as well. I was also thinking about trying out the SuperLumination's surface mount LEDs.

Is there any other reason to go the LED lights other then better for the environment (Uses less energy) and battery life?  I don't do any dry camping so my battery is there because it "looks" good.  Thanks

I'm converting to improve battery life.

The main reason is battery life for dry camping. i.e. I can run twelve 36 LED arrays for the power consumption on a single #921 bulb.

The second is heat. Those #921 bulbs generate a boatload of heat. In fact somewhere in your popup or in the manual there's most likely something that says "let the bulbs cool down before lowering."

As an aside, I've been discussing with the SuperLumination guys about the 25 LED SMT array vs. the 36 LED array. They say the SMT array puts out about 30% more light even though it's got eleven less LEDs. However, they also said the human eye isn't that great at detecting the difference. They both emit light with a bluish tint.

What I'm trying to do is find a splitter so I can plug two of the arrays in at once without splicing the array wires together. I keep my #921 bulbs in the popup so if I'm on shore power and want more light without the blue, I can stick those in. If I have the splitter then I can also choose to use one LED array or two depending on my needs. At any rate, no luck finding a premade splitter so I'm trying to track down the socket and plug part numbers so I can make a few.

You might be interested in a web based tool I'm developing to plan battery consumption. See this thread about it:

In theory, the life of an LED is hundreds of times that of an incadescent bulb.  Whether that extended life works out, and whether it is financially justified, is another matter.  I know I have never replaced an interior incadescent bulb in my seven-year-old pop-up.

Cost of a replacement 1.4A #921 bulb - $3.78
Cost of a 123mA 36 LED array - $15

Cost of not getting your butt whupped by the wife because the battery died at 2am killing the furnace fan when it's 40 degrees - PRICELESS!!
