Has anyone installed an air conditioner unit themselves on their pop-up?  I am wondering if it is something we can do ourselves?  How much work is involved in installing the unit?  My husband is not a handyman and we were wondering how much work is involved.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

It can be done. Lots of people have done it. However, if he is not a handyman, it might be worth your $$ just to have a dealer do it. It might save him some gray hair too, because it does require some cutting, usually.

You can find AC units for sale on Ebay for under $500 (shipping is probably $50-85 though).  And if you are comfortable cutting into your roof, it looks like a fairly straightforward install.

When we bought our new PU, I got the dealer down the $575 installed for the AC, figured that was a pretty decent price.  Especially considering that if there were any problems they were responsible, not me.

Yes it can be done.  PUT had an article about installing your own AC a few years back.  You need 2 people to do the job.:)

Just mounting the AC is only part of the job. You might want to be sure that your roof is properly braced to handle the weight of the AC. That can actually be the most difficult part on some PUs.
