We have reservations for dogwood a couple nights next week.  Its our first time there, and we just noticed that its listed on reserveamerica as having BEARS.  Is this a problem there?  Do they offer containers for the food, or can we leave it in the car?

Oh and how about fire rings?  Are they supplied?  After Flying Flags we have to make sure.

Thanks!!

It is about 5 miles outside of Lake Arrowhead in the San Bernadino mountains. We had never heard of it before, but we have read a few reviews and all of them have been positive. So far we will even have a few empty spaces next to us so it might be a quiet few days. Well, except for the noise of our three boys anyway.

If they are warning you of bears, they should have bearboxes.   We try to always bring a firepit just in case.

Have fun on your trip.

We have a property in Running Springs. the tenants have seen 1 bear in 6 years. I don't consider that a risk :D .

I have been there many times, (our favorite site is #21).  We have never seen a bear there, nor have heard about any recent nearby sightings or visits.

I had seen black bears at the Boy Scout Camp close to Lake Arrowhead though, (many years ago), so they did exist in the general area, at least in the early 80's!

There are no bear boxes at Dogwood.  I'd ask the attendant at the kiosk if any wildlife has been sighted recently, (besides the college kids in site #??). ;)

As far as campfires,  the forest fire danger is marked "Extream"that may limit any campfires in the forest, best to call ahead to find out if they are currently allowed.

I hope that they wouldn't even allow smoking :D . Campfires would be really scarry this time of the year, in that area.

That's because the bears know the easy food is at the campgrounds. :)

I'm just throwing a bunch of food over in wavery's site, that way they will stay away from mine :J

I'm relying on Dufus, sadie & daisy to keep them away...

maybe we can get Gregory to do some animal imitation to scare them off :p
