Well after the 2 huge winter storms we had here in Colorado my 97 Coleman camper did not fare too well.  The roof cracked and sagged real bad.  Good thing I had it insured.  So after dealing with the Insurance company we are getting it replaced. Has anyone had their Coleman ABS roof replaced.  How did the new one work out for you?  Is there anything I need to look for when I get it done?  It is being done at a local RV shop that is a Coleman dealer/repair shop.

I had mine replaced on my 02 Niagra right after I bought it.  The dealer misdrilled the holes for my yakima racks and just caulked the holes.  Being that anal type that I am, I wanted the roof replaces which they did with no hassle or questions ask.

One interesting note, the roof they put on had three braces in it which the old roof did not - probably due to the sagging issue.

May not be of much help, but if you have air or racks, make sure they drill the holes in the right place!

In 2002, they were still replacing them with ABS, if I recall correctly.  The roof you will get will be a laminated roof, I think with aluminum and some composite material.
The new roofs don't sag.

I had my original ABS roof replaced with one of the upgraded ABS roofs. Although, as AB says, your new roof won't be ABS, the installation issues are probably the same.

This is a major installation, with much of your camper being taken apart in order to carry it out. There are lots of opportunities for things to go wrong. Make SURE you do a thorough inspection before you take the camper home.

On my job, the installers were butchers. They ripped some of the rubber "arrow seal" that holds the tenting material to the roof. This rubber arrow seal, apparently, cannot be replaced, so the remedy was to replace sections of tenting. I ended up with 75% of my camper getting new tenting. However, this didn't happen until I raised a fuss about the ripped arrow seal. Originally they just put the thing back together and I had to discover the problem on my own. In spite of the fact that I made them open the camper so I could inspect everything before I took it home, I missed the ripped arrow seals until we were out camping and I noticed some sagging of tent material away from the roof at various points. Then I had to take it back in, point out the problem to them, and insist that they make it right.

Another, small thing, that they got wrong was that they forgot to install new straps that hold the door in place against the roof during travel.

Also, the door will not be replaced, which means that the old door has to fit into the door-space on the new roof. Our door is a much tighter fit than I like. I neglected to put the door into position during my inspection. We've just decided to live with it. Put the door into position and snap it into place during your inspection. If it doesn't fit well, make them fix it.

Keep in mind that the new aluminum roof weighs about 100 pounds more than the old ABS roof. If you tend to push weight limits, like most of us do, figure this into your calculations.

I hope you are spared the frustrations that we experienced. We do love our new roof, however!

Thanks for the input.  I am new to this site and am pleased with the info that I have seen so far.  I will definatly set it up at the dealer when I go to pick it up.  Now I just need to wait about a month for them to get the new top delivered.

Just curious...about how much does one of these cost?

We had ours replaced on our 99 Utah due to roof sag.

We didn't have any problems at all.

I don't know the cost because when we had ours replaced Fleetwood was still covering the bill.  That changed shortly after ours was ordered, and they started making the owner pay for shipping.  I guess we were lucky!
