I searched the site and read the manual but it might be easier just to ask.  What product and exactly how much do I add to the casset potty (Thetford C4) fresh water supply?  1999 Santa Fe.  I bought 8fl oz of Holding Tank 3 in 1 Treatment. (controls odors, Liquifies waste, cleans tank.)  Is this the correct product?  How much do I add?  thanks

I don't add any chemicals to the fresh water supply, only in the waste tank and I think that is about 2 oz.  Never had a problem.  I'm not sure what the name of the chemical is that I use...it is the blue stuff  :p

The Thetford C4 has a tank capacity of 5 gallons. Depending on which fluid product you buy will determine how much you need to put in the tank. If it's a concentrate, you may only need half an ounce or whatnot. I use TST Orange with 1/2 oz in the holding tank (plus 1/2 gallon water) and a capfull in the fresh flushwater funnel (filling the remainder with water). Many people have told me *not* to do this, but it's stated very clearly in the Thetford C4 manual to do so in step 2 right after the introduction.

I prefer to use the TST Orange because of the nice citrus smell rather than that odd smell you get with the blue stuff. With the fluid in the flushwater funnel, you get a nice citrus smell when flushing too.

At any rate, get whichever "smell" floats your boat. Just read the ingredients to make sure you aren't getting a formaldehyde based one. I've read a few articles about wastewater disposal places closing due to excessive formaldehyde having been dumped. I think they'll be hard to find nowadays anyway, but it never hurts to check.

Thanks for the help,
I read in the manual the same thing but to use "Aqua Rinse".  I checked around a few RV/Marine stores and none of them have Aqua Rinse.  They said just use Aqua Chem.  That started my confusion.  Once we use it I'm sure we'll figure it out.

Thanks again,

Thetford makes their own brand of toilet fluid called AquaChem. They also probably make Aqua Rinse. As long as whatever you use is made for portable / RV toilets you'll be fine.

"The Thetford C4 has a tank capacity of 5 gallons."

For those of us who are totally ignorant...which tank has the capacity of 5 gallons? Which one is the "holding" tank? Which tank does the Orange stuff go into? There is the fresh water tank and the waste tank. Please enlighten me.

I know I read somewhere on here that there is no stupid questions, so I'm taking you up on this.

The "orange stuff" or "blue stuff " goes into the holding tank. The fresh water tank on the CP is for flushing and doesn't require any additives.

I agree 100%, but Thetford does sell a product for the fresh water tank in Europe.  Many people see the directions for the Europe based products and feel they need to add stuff.

No need to add to the fresh water tank, just water....

Ok, the removable cassette (the big one on the bottom) has a capacity of 5 gallons and is where the nasty stuff ends up and you dumping it.

The swing out freshwater loader (non-removable) is where you put the freshwater and the fluid if you want. If you read the Thetford manual, step two after the introduction instructs to put fluid in the freshwater loader.

Do you have to? Probably not. If all I had to choose from was the blue stuff, I wouldn't put it in there either. The TST Orange has a nice citrus smell and contains cleaners and lubricants. For me, those three things make sense to put it in the freshwater. With a two year old who ends up touching the inside of the bowl on occasion, the cleaner / disinfectant additives are important. The lubricants make sure the toilet stays in good shape in between periodic maintenance of actually lubing the seals by hand.

Other than on-line, does wally world or some store like that carry the proper TST Orange for adding to the fresh flush water?

Interesting thread...poop products!

I bought mine from a local store called Central Trailer Supply here in ABQ. You can also buy it from Camping World. Other than that... I don't know.
