I am refurbishing a 1993 Coleman Cape Cod to include a roof rebuild as it has a leak.  I have finished the interior of the roof and am now working on the exterior.  I have removed the corner caps, cleaned them up and will reinstall.  There was some type of sticky, black tar-type stuff to hold them on and seal them.  To reinstall, what do I use?  Is it butyl tape to seal or something else?

I will answer my own question for the benefit of others.  I was able to stop by the Coleman dealership last week and spoke with their repair man.  We've had several telephone conversations so it was nice to meet in person.  He said he attaches them with 1/8", 3/4 wide butyl tape and screws.  Then he seals them using Dap 100% sylicone calk, the 50 year warentee kind you can buy a lowe's.

He suggests Dap 100% silicone calk for all repairs.  Hope this helps someone else.
