New kind of yard sale

A friend of ours is getting ready to start fulltiming in his 5er.

He invited several friends to a yard sale at his home but with a twist.

You could take anything that was available for sale and load it into you car or truck.

As far as price, you put what you think is an appropriate amount in a large cardbox he had in the hallway.

His thoughts were:

1.  I would like my friends to have a chance to purchase what I no longer need.

2.  I don't want to know what something was sold for.

Dw and I did pick up some items but I found the psychology of this sale interesting.  He did not have to put a price on the item but it was up to the buyer's conscience to determine a fair price.

In other words, I wanted a bargain but not shortchange a friend.  Found it tricky to figure out what was a fair price.

One of the items for sale was the sleep sofa out of his new 5 er.
Dw and I were interested for ds but how do you figure a price on it?  It was brand new and probably worth around $500 plus.  Do you take it and leave $100 for it?  No, we didn't get it, DS didn't need it.  the reason the sofa was for sale is that my friend and his wife reupholestered an antique sofa that they had.  Fits great in the new trailer.

Anyone else ever gone to this type of yard sale?

Gene and I were discussing this on the phone tonight.

I told him we had a similar yard sale a few months ago except we didn't have an invite list. We put an empty coffee can out with the goods. We put a little note up about all funds raised would be going to my daughters spending money for her eighth grade trip to New York City. Some people paid more than the value and some paid less, we didn't care because it was stuff that had to go. We ran this for 3 weekends in a row and the third weekend had a sign saying everything was FREE.
We actually did good on the free weekend because the coffee can was still put out. Some people paid for the free stuff and some people didn't.

BTW
She had just over $300 in spending money for her trip. She is very giving and shared with her friends that couldn't bring much money.
