We purchased a 2002 Starcraft pop-up and are anxiuos to take it out.  At the time of purchase, we were told that the battery would need to be replaced as it would not hold a charge.  Anyone know a good (and affordable) battery we can get?

Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the forum!

There are a couple of "battery" threads currently running, so check them out either in this forum, or in the "Mr. Fixit" or "Dry Camping" forums.  All sorts of good info there.

But, to cut to the chase, a Group 31 RV/Marine battery will give you the most bang for your buck.  Just buy from a reputable place like a NAPA, or similar, rather than some schlock battery place selling discount junk.

You can take a look at the battery you have, or measure it, and the box it sits in to make sure that a Group 31 will fit.  Give the new battery a good charge before you leave each time and check the water level then too.  Top off with distilled only.

I know some people are down on Walmart but I've had really good luck with their batteries in my boats and they are very reasonably priced. Wherever you get it make sure it says "deep cycle" and not just marine cranking. There is a difference.

I get my batteries at Sam's Club.  They have a group 29 that has the same reserve capacity that my group 31s have.  Good luck on getting a battery and the larger the reserve capacity the longer it will last.  You do not need cold cranking amps cca for a camper.  You will not be starting anything with it.:)

Got my pair at WallWorld. Group 27's with 115AH rating each. In the $60 range.
Check this website out to make it last longer.......
