hahahaha!!!  I'm full of questions tonight!!! :D

DH and I were just talking about the weekend we spent in August and the bees were so bad......... everyone was getting stung and that really sucked.  Anyway we want to go back there the same time next year but want to be prepared this time ;)..................... We bought a sunbeam bug zapper thats rechargable but is there anything else we should invest in to help our fight?

Thanks :)

A COKE can with a little fluid about 10 paces away, Bees arnt attracted to bug zappers, They are attracked to smells ( perfume, sweet smells etc.) We have the same zapper and it works great for BUGS, moths No seeums etc..The can works well if you keep it away from your site............other than that a Hotel fully enclosed with a major air system works also :screwy: me.

Bees or Yellow Jackets?  Bees sting once and die.  Yellow Jackets bite...repeatedly, and you get a little poison.  Yellow Jackets are shiny with long thin wings.  Bees are typically fuzzy with oval wings.

Buy a yellow jacket trap and hang it in the campsite.

For other flying stuff, the zapper, as mentioned.  But don't forget about the "Ex-Officio "Buzz Off" brand of clothing that has a natural repellent built into the fabric.

Go to //www.sierratradingpost.com  and you can buy hats, bandanas, shirts, T-shirts, shorts and pants, all in the "Buzz Off" style.

While bug zappers do work remember that they work by attracting insects. So try and keep them as far away as possible from occupied areas. Same with the Coke can/Wasp traps.

Yes they were Yellow Jackets/ Meat Bees..... whatever you want to call them........... but no they weren't honey bees.

Thanks for all the tips guys ;)

Along with hanging a yellow jacket trap from a tree filled with coke off in the distance, we use a fan in the area that we are sitting at..... mainly at the picnic table while we are eating. They seem to not like moving air very much.

One thing about the clothing with the bug repelant built in...
I was shopping at a clearance sale once and found 1 of these shirts half off.  :) I put it over my arm with a bunch of other stuff and kept shopping. About 30 minutes later I noticed a headache. I handed my armload to my wife, went off for water and got distracted by something else. 5 minutes later, I sipped some water & noticed the headache was gone. Found my wife, got my stuff back on my arm and shopped some more (Did I mention this was an outfitter store and they were remodeling/clearance?) 5 minutes later, headache came back. This time I thought about the shirt, and asked my wife to carry it again. Sure enough the headache went away.
Now, this was probably just me. Plenty of those shirts get sold and they're still on the market. On another day it might not have bothered me at all. My wife wasn't bothered by it even after she knew what was going on. Or maybe it's just that particular brand. I don't know. YMMV.
I bring this up with the suggestion that you try the same experiment if you are thinking of buying something like this. I'm sure the cloths work well, but they're not cheap. And you wouldn't want to spend that money & then find it causes you problem every time you wore it. However, if it doesn't bother you, good for you.
Needless to say, I didn't buy the shirt.  :(

Okay, let's consider something else. Shopping with your wife....headache......move away from wife.....headache goes away......shop with wife again......headache.

Hmmmmm. Could it be? Nooo that is rediculous...okay it's the shirt. At least saying it's the shirt will keep us all out of trouble.

That's 'cuase I wasn't there...this is how I handle them:

Gracy

Thats a great plan Dee............... combat bugs and tan at the same time! ;)

GeneF

Is this a silent bug zapper or one of those that keeps your neighbors blood pressure up with all the snap, crackle and pops while he/she is trying to listen to the silent of the night.

You go Dee!

I'm going to try that fan bit.  Sarah got stung at Lopez and then a week later at Lake Casitas.  She's now getting bee shy.    Also, if we have a fan, maybe we'll be able to enjoy a meal without the unwanted company.

Yeah the kiddos trying to eat is the worst...... they would get swarmed and have to go eat in the trailer or a tent which they tell you NOT to do because of the bears  :(   Its not something I want to have to deal with again.......... I'm liking the fan idea too.... but not sure how we would pull that one off if its dry camping

Maybe we'll just borrow Dee's bug zapper next time ;)

hahahahahahaha!!!  :p
