After a 5 year absence to try the world of TT's I am coming back to a PU.
Just got home from the dealer. We bought a 1999 Coleman Niagara. We are so excited. I loved my TT but did not like pulling that big thing. Looking forward to making some great memories in our return to the world of PU's.

We cannot get it until next Saturday because the dealer wants to give it a thorough cleaning and repair a few minor problems, like a broken bungee.

We started camping in a 1984 Coleman Columbia, this Niagara feels like a mansion compared to that!

Hope to see y'all around a campfire real soon!

Peace and Blessings,
Don

Welcome back to the fold! Some years ago I went from a tent to a 27' Airstream and found out it was a lot of trailer to keep up, where to store it when not in use and it ate my lunch gas mileage wise and that was back in the good ole days of cheap gas! And above all ... I could'nt get back to some of the places I wanted to stay. Ended up parting with it and picked up a smaller (single axle) Shasta. That thing was bad news to pull on down the road and really not much room inside, plus real stuffy! That got me over to popups and for what I do, does the job just fine.

Have fun.
I'm sure the memories in the TT weren't all that bad either.

Congratulations and welcome back.  I hope you have a great time in your new PU.:)

I am coming to a pop up myself from a motorhome... too many inconveniences with the motorhome, like having to drag a car, and the fuel mileage STUNK... I can say being from the world of motorhomes, that in todays world, the pop up wins!

I'm with ya. I did the same thing. I had a 22' TT that was goign to kill my poor old '91 Chevy Blazer. BAd mileage, couldn't pull it up hills with revving the motor or nearly overheating.

Too many things to start and stop with the TT: water heater, stove, heater, fridge, winterizing, leveling was a pain, had to use sway bars and it still liked to wiggle. I sold it after a few trips to a couple who wanted to get a start in camping.
5 years later we're camping again- in a PUP. I love it. It's so simple and easy to pull. Only thing I hook up is water and power. No toilets to clean, grey/black water tanks to empty, or scary moments when it gets to wiggling. No need for a brake controller for my little Coleman Taos and it pulls great, even behind my '98 Ford Exploder that's infamous for rolling-over. The Taos is easier to store and I can even pull it around the yard in my golf cart to park it. the more i talk about, the more I love it.

I suppose the thing I love the most about my PUP is the simplicity of it. The main gripes I have about the PUP would be security, lack of insulation, and that it's not open all the time. i have to admit, it was nice having my own bathroom available when traveling, even if it's just for washing my hands after dumping the tanks.

Dave, another article I'd like to read would be comparisons between canvas PUs and the A-frames.

I love my little Jayco Qwest 8U (I have a/c and fridge/stove) but it's a lot of work for just and overnighter and I'm still working so don't have much time for extended trips.

If you do write this, I have a list of questions!!

We went to Knoxville Saturday and brought our NTU PU home. It was a beautiful day for driving and the trip on I-75 was great. It pulled like a dream. I did not miss the feeling I got when pulling the TT. My Niagara is just right behind my F-150.

I will get some pix posted asap. It gets busy though when you are a working 46 year old college student with homework to do.

Dave, I would be glad to answer any questions you may have concerning coming back to PUs. I feel we are really campers again.

Peace and Blessings,
Don

We currently have both a pop-up and a travel trailer.  I purchase our first camper (95 Jayco Eagle8), and absollutely fell in love.  When we started camping more as a whole family(wife)and staying longer, I purchased a TT (2004 Jayfeather 27P).  Unfortunately, our pop-up was stolen this summer.  At first, we decided to just stay with our TT, but soon missed our pop-up.  There is just nothing like pop-up camping, and I soon started searching.  I found a Jayco J/Trax 8ft pop-up in Georgia and brought it home.  We used it for a weekend in Marion, NC and at the Subway 500 in Martinsville, Va. so far.  I will be camping in my sister and brother-in-law's back yard this weekend to let my children camp with their cousins.

I love camping with my family.  My wife likes the travel trailer and my kids love the pop-up.  I can say that I love both.  Camping is my favorite!!
