Hello all,  Although I am not new to camping, I am new to the forum and have a few questions. I just signed today for a new pop up,  it is an 07 palomino pony P280,  I found it as a left over and got it for 4800,  which is what I thought was a good deal,  is it?   I have had an 86 starcraft sle17 pop up and last year had a few things break on it.  I had to replace the cables on it and rebuild the winch system,  which was not to fun.  I also had to replace the sides on the roof panel due to rot which also was not to fun,  All this in turn is what made me decide to shop for a new one.  The one big thing that kind of sold me on the palomino was the lift system on it, since it only uses one cable.  Is there any known problems with these systems that I should keep an eye on?  When I checked it out I did notice and pointed out to the salesman that there was a small crack on the roof where the panel bends down.  I even went as far as to take a few digital pictures of it to prove that it was there before I bought it if it becomes a problem.  The general manager of the place assured me that it would be taken care of.  Do you think this is going to be a problem for me?  And also,  I am curious about getting a bike rack that goes on the roof of it?  Anyone have any experience with these?  Is it a good idea or no?  thanks for your help.

I'm not all that familar with the Palomino either, but do remember one that was camped next to us, a pony series, maybe three or four seasons back, and that unit used a "Goshen" lift, the same as my Starcraft uses.

The Goshen folks are great should you ever need servicing advice and assistance.

Thanks for the info!  I am actually from northeast PA,  not AZ,  sorry for the confusion.  One other question I have is that this pop up came with electric brakes.  Do I really need to use them?  It is a smaller camper and I didn't have any on my starcraft and I never had a problem coming down hills.

Welcome Neighbor to the North!
If the trailer has electric brakes I would be sure to use a brake controller with it just to be safe. Welcome to PUT and enjoy your new PU! Any good campground reviews up your way?

Hello AZ951 and welcome to PUT

I had my bike rack installed by the dealer so I would not have any roof issues with the warranty if something went wrong. We are very pleased with the rack and being able to take our bikes with us.

Electric brakes are required in most states, with some states having lower weight limits then others. Since yours came with them, I would think they must be required in your state. you could always verify if they are required, but for the my peace of mind, I would use them. want to make sure the family is traveling safe  :)

Hey guys,  thanks for all the info.  I am now going to do some research on the eleltric brakes.  As for campgrounds up my way,  there are three that we love to go to,  Lackawanna state park,  Worlds End state park,  and Dingmans Campground in Dingmans Ferry.  Lackawanna state park is nice because it is close to home and nice for last minute weekend getaways,  we have camped there multiple times.  We love camping at Worlds End state park because of its somewhat remoteness and lots of hiking trails,  the veiws that you can see are awsome,  and the rock gardens are cool to explore,  we always tent camped there at the walk in sites, but there are rv sites.  This past summer we camped at Dingman's Campground for eight days,  and loved every minute of it,  we never ran out of anything to do.  It is located right on the delaware river and there are sites right on the river bank.  We stayed on the river bank,  but the only downside to that is that you can only tent camp on the river bank,  but that didn't bother us at all.  there are tons of campsites there from heavily wooded, to camping on the edge of the corn field,  to open grassy sites.  We definately recomend this camp ground to everyone,  plus it is in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area,  so there is always plenty to do without to far to go.  They also offer river trips right from the campground.   We are going back this year sometime.
