CG's OBX, Kill Devil Hills to Corolla?

hi we have friends renting a house in corolla, and would like to stay somewhere near them this summer. Are there any campgrounds north of the 12 split, say Kill Devil Hills to the end of the paved road at Corolla? we thought about  at the staying at the Emerald Isle CG, but I don't think we can haul the PUP in the sand.

I don't know of any campgrounds north of the Route 12 split.  I think Emerald Isle is way south of there... 133 miles.


Closest campground to Corolla is at mile post 4...

If this is the RV park that is located very near the Holiday Inn Express-Kitty Hawk - don't look for anything remotely like a typical camping experience.  It looked like a fenced in parking lot - more like a dealership than a cg.  I wish I could remember the name of the place for sure that I am talking about - I just remember cringing when we saw it.  It was located between the highway and the beach road so proximity to the beach is excellent.  BUT, it looked awful from the road and is the only one I remember seeing in the northern area of OBX.  If you don't plan to use your camper for anything other than a base camp, it might be adequate.

Edited to add:  I just looked at the site and aerial shot - I'm pretty sure this is the one I'm talking about.  That looks like the aforementioned hotel right next to it where we stayed and had a lovely ocean view from the second floor AND also a view if we looked to the left of that not so lovely cg.  Ugh.

Yes that is the one. I saw that one when we took a side trip coming home from the eastern ralley last year.
