Is there a difference between the Tekonesha PRIMUS or the Tekonesha PRODIGY brake contollers.  I need to set up my new TV.  I have a Primus available to install but everyone seems to love the Prodigy here.  Any thoughts?

You could call the Primus a Prodigy lite. It doesn't have the boost feature, but that is really only for when the trailer weight equals or exceeds the TV weight.
The Primus, Prodigy, and the newest P3 all have the same basic electronic braking system, it's just the bells ans whistles are different.
The Primus is fine for use with any smaller trailer.

So do I have it right that they both detect how to brake and when to brake in the same way using the same technology?

Also, my TV is a Yukon XL with a 7100 pound towing rating and the PU's GVWR is 3250 pounds (Fleetwood/Coleman 2000 Niagara - 12 ft box). Does that qualify for a "smaller trailer" thus using the Primus woud be a good choice or should I get the Prodigy.

Just trying to set up my newly purchesed TV correctly the first time around, we will be taveling out west through the Rocky Mountains...setting up the brakes correctly has been on my mind.

Try this link:

That will get you to teknosha's web site for the pirmus.  You can also navigate to the Prodigy site and compare the two.

This link shows the two card for the Prodigy.  It may answer you setup question.

This is more out of curiosity.  Has anyone used the Tekonsha P3 and if so do you like it...any + or -...would you recommend it?

I have it in my Tundra and last month pulled my 11RT to Death Valley.  It worked much better than the Voyager it replaced.  Easy to adjust, and once set, no more fiddling around with it.  Very consistant braking, unlike the Voyager.

My TV is a Tahoe, pulling a 2005 Niagra and using a Primus. It does a great job, and having the brakes and controller set up correctly makes a huge difference, even on flat land.  I read and re-read the manufacturers instructions several times before doing the setup and adjustment.  Their procedure works.   Good luck!

I use Primus in a Trailblazer, pulling the '07 Niagara.  Works fine.

Found mine on Ebay for about half the price of the PRodigy (the P3 wasn't available at that point.)
