My 73 starcraft needs some work done on the roof.  The rubber seal that runs along the seams that covers the staples and bolt heads is rock hard and will probably need replaced if I remover it.  Where can a person find replacement seals for and old camper?  It does not have to match the original I just want to make sure I have all the screws and staples covered.  Thanks

WELCOME TO PUT.... I'm glad I got to be the first one to reply to one of the easier questions. I have a 76 Model and had to replace the same thing on mine. I use a local RV dealer that was very easy to deal with, with staff behind the parts counter that really are eager to get a challenge. Star Craft still makes most of the original parts for these things, they still make the original canvas as well.

If you have a local dealer cut a small piece of it off and bring it to them. Mine looks like an alien if you look at it from the side / looking in. I bought 40' for less than $50 including the shipping. At that price I would stick with original.

In case you don't have a local one here's the dealer I use, they do a fair amount of internet sales, and are a very reputable bussiness that includes repair too. I'm not big on trying to push one bussiness over another, but these guys really do like a challenge.  I've also seen it posted here that if you don't live within 50 miles of a Star Craft dealer you can purchase directly from Star Craft.

Thanks,  I was kind of concerned that I would not be able to find
parts like this,  but if they are still available then I will give the repairs a try.  Thanks again.

Hi!  I have a '73 starcraft starmaster 6 - what model is yours?  I picked it up off E-bay last year and it was a pretty neglected mess - but the canvas is in great shape, just stained a bit.

I've done alot of restoration on mine (and still more to do) and would be very interested in seeing any photos of what you're doing for comparison and ideas.

I had to replace the entire cable lift system last year and replaced one of the roof sidewalls - it was completely rotted out, as were the back corners and floor under the lifter posts.  I will probably be replacing more of the roof walls this summer as the corners are dry-rotted - but for now, they are holding with some reinforcement and the camper is weatherproof and comfortable to camp in.

I did have to take those strips out in a number of places and was able to re-use them - they weren't real flexible, but they still worked.  Starcraft is great at working with people on these vintage units.

I have tons of photos on my Webshots page http://community.webshots.com/user/TLauraT7 - feel free to browse and e-mail me if you have any questions. I'd be glad share info if it could help.  It helped me alot to see other people's photos and descriptions of their mods and repairs as I went along - gives you more of an idea of how the trailer is constructed, and what a job might involve, parts needed and alternative ideas, etc.   I have a very tight budget and tend to re-use and recycle alot, but there are a number of sources for replacement parts, also.
