Hi to all. I very much enjoy this site and have been a hiker my entire life. My wife and I are AT thru hikers in 2001. We now have three children and things have changed.
I will be a new pup owner very soon. My wife and I have narrowed our search and hope that you can be of some assisitance.
We are between 2008 Palomino Yearling 4120 and Jayco Jay series 1207. We appreciate the site and info we have gained.
Thanks again.

Your two choices are both good although I own a Coleman/Fleetwood camper so I have no hands on experience with either. I chose Coleman when I was looking for a camper because I did not like the flip over galley others were using which you can not put much into because it gets dumped over when closing up and I liked the nice stepper door and the one piece entry door.
Oh yes forgot to mention also that Fleetwood uses a tubular frame instead of a C channel type, much stronger and can be used with a weight distribution hitch if needed.

remember that a good dealer is hard to beat after the sale. So if you like both PU's, pick the one with the better dealer and/or service dept.
enjoy your new PU  :D

I use to have a 1995 Jayco 1207 and just loved it.  I thought the quality was excellent and never has an issue with it.  I now have a 2000 Palomino and love it too and have not had any issures with it either.  Both are very good campers and will last a long time if taken care of.  I would go with the dealer that you like best, as it can make or brake a good camper experience.  Good luck.

Welcome to PUT Steve!!  We have a 2006 Jayco 1207 and we love it. The floor plan fit our needs and what really sold me was the warranty, i think its one of the best in the Biz. Which ever you buy you'll have years of family fun and memorys that will last a lifetime.........Ed C.

Our 2002 Coleman has the flip-over galley and we like it. Before we flip over, we stuff the cabinets with pillows and towels. That keeps everything in place pretty good. The flip-over galley seems to have less problems with drain leaks. I've read some real horror stories about the seals not lining up and the cabinets and floor getting water damaged. Everything is a trade off. :D

Hi Steve, I'm a hiker too. Due to bad back and age now we have a Jayco 1006. Most of the modern PU's are nice, go with whatever you like. I would echo the previous posters and add you can save a bundle by going used. Not a lot of differences between an 08 and a 05, or 04 but you could save thousands

Hey Steve. We have a 2004 Qwest 12A which is the same as the Jay series 1207. They changed the names for the '05 model year for some reason. We absolutely love our PUP. We have had no problems with it what-so-ever. We bought it new so there were no surprises. You can't beat the warranty also. If I'm not mistaken they still have a lifetime warranty on the floor, roof and lift system.

Good luck with your purchase.

Used 2B PopUPTimes

I've had both brands and had no problems with either.

Ditto what HersheyGirl says ... in reverse.   :p   I now have a 1995 Jayco 1207 and absolutely love it.  It's a great fit for my family.  The ex kept the 1998 Palomino.  The only issue I had with that was the floorplan and that was my own darn fault for not knowing any better when we bought it.

The biggest thing really is the dealer, imho.  If you're buying new, go with the dealer who treats you better.

More to think about:

1) If you have a 'limiting' tow vehicle, you may want to look at weight.  The palomino's frames do not recommend weight distributing hitch, and will void warranty.  I do not know about the Jaycos.

2) whichever layout your wife prefers
