I have a mid-week two day (Wednesday and Thursday and another training at night in Dover on Thursday) training at the Fire School near Dover DE. that is the 11th and 12th of June...

I was thinking about camping at Killens as the gas back and forth from New Castle to Dover is now a killer...or I could camp in Skips yard (j/k)

If I do, I would stay through the weekend, as the evening training is comp time and I would only need 3.5 hours vacation for Friday, if I could get a Helpdesk switch as I am scheduled that Friday AM HD. (or I could drive in).  Would anyone be interested in possibly joining me/us for the weekend?

I know Killens makes me sick (Pine) but it is the closest campground I know of to Dover and I will just have to live on flonaise and zertec and hope for the best.

I have reservations at Killens Tues, Wed and Thurs nights, will leave on Friday and take the trailer to Tall Pines Harbor for Friday and Saturday.

I will unhook and pull up the stablizers and they will move the trailer for me to the site for the Rally the following THursday. for $2.00/day, they will let it stay on the site and will plug up the electric. For less than the gas to pull it home from Killens, I can have it there and not have to pay the DElaware tolls both ways twice. Just both ways once.  Unless you get onto 13 and drive through all those traffic lights and again at the Middletown Exit to avoid the other toll, heading north...the tolls double on the weekends.

I have also changed sites for the mini-Rally. We were in the open field across from the full hookup sites that used to be camper storage whenwe used to go there.  Ray and Shari have put in water -electric there, but it is still out in the open, and we do like shade. So we will be on a full hook up site for the Rally and a water-electric next weekend.

Paula-

We are sorry we won't be able to join you. We will be visiting Mickey at his house in Walt Disney World. We will be staying Fort Wilderness. We hope you have a good trip.

Hope to see you soon,
Shelly and the gang!

Hey Paula!
We'll be close to your neck of the woods that week. We will be at Fort Whaley June 14th to the 19th. Can't wait to hit the Delaware shopping!!!

Ummm CHeryl, I live almost as far from FT. Whaley as I live from you, Killens is about half way between me and FT. Whaley, but I will be heading down that way on the way to take the trailer to TPH and spend the next 2 weekends down there. We are considering leaving it down there since I can get Raymond to go and we do not have to back the camper in, they will have it in place on the weekends we want to stay there, then it is basically plug and play...and with the price of gas...they will store it for only a $1.00 a day.

Have fun Camper John and family.  Better you than me in Disney in the summer...been there done that when I was in HS in Florida, right after it first opened.  I don't do crowds well (hence camp instead of concerts).  be prepared to stand in lines, unless you do that speed pass thing. It was fun when I took the kids back in the 1994, but it was Christmas break and the place was packed...I had 3 free nights in Orlando at the Hilton...that was the trip I left Raymond in FLA to find his own way home...LOOOONG story, not for here.

How do you like Killens Pond?  For some reason we always skip over it.  We've spent a lot of night (weekends) at Lums Pond.  It's a 10-15 minute drive from home (I'm in Bear).

We've never had a bad trip at Lums. Folks are nice, facilities are clean, biking and hiking trails are clearly marked, and there's a great sandwich shop only a mile or two out!

We like Killens Pond.  Our situation is just the opposite from yours:  We are Dover, so Killens is a short ride for us.  They have opened up some trails for cycling and have the boat rentals.  Good quick getaway for us.  We don't have kids with us anymore unless the grandson comes along, but the waterpark is popular...

We were at Lums years ago, when the kids were still small.  Had a good time there.  Haven't been there since, though.

I have never been to Lums camping, was last there when you could still swim in the lake.

Killens was close to Dover, I had 2 days of Decon training, even wearing the  suits and setting up the deconatmination tent that hospitals and Public health has (this happened to be public healths)

First night was the night from h-e double hockey sticks...I could not get into my site because of the angle of the site to the circle AND there were 4 women in 3 vehicles with 3 tents and no less thn 12 WILD children...I was told to watch the kids when I tried the first 4 times to back into the site...I went to the office to ask to be moved (the park was mostly empty on a Tuesday, but instead she asked the park host to ask them to move one of the vehicles to the overflow and to move the other vehicles...well that did not work and I asked, by this time I was a little short on patience, it was getting dark and I had NOT had dinner, if they would move the pick up, it was that third vehicle with the tailgate down that was making it difficult...one of the women piped up and explained that with the trees, I did not have enough room to swinginto the site and that I needed to go straight in...the woman with the truck moved it, I got in, the first try after the riga moror...

The next day  when I came in from training (I had 2 that day, the one in the day time and a 2 1/2 hr evening training) they were GONE...vanished Poof...the WHOLE campground was rejoicing, even to the next morning, the talk at the bath house was the unruly kids that took over the campground...
This type of even is the exception NOT the rule. Usually the people are friendly and helpful.

Normally Killens kills me, literally...this time, I had my fantastic vent and ran it 2 full days prior to leaving and the whole time I was there...NO SINUS PROBLEMS...what ever is in the trailer (have not got the formaldahyde report back) hightens whatever it is at Killens I react to, they used to have wild flowers in the field outside the office, and I know they have lots and lots of pine...I think that the combination is what was getting me.

The cabin A is still at TPH, they will store it on the site with electric and water for $2.00/day. Including moving it to the site, either from the site it was on or from their storage lot, which it $1.00/day to store there.

The cabin A was a hit, but it seemed the only time anyone wanted the penny tour, it was when I had the matteress up trying to figure out why no water was coming out the water heater...WEEELLLL when I attached the by-pass kit, I put the piece with the lever on back wards, that meant that the water would flow into the water heater no matter what position, but nothing would leave the water heater.

After making a dilligent search of my tool box, I found the RIGHT wrenches, 1" and 15/16" to turn the copper thingee with the lever around...all back in place, mattress back down, put the plug BACK into the waterheater, and no water went into the heater...lifted the mattress, put the personal table back under it as a prop (water heater is in the righ front corner of the Cabin A, mattress takes up 1/3 of the cabin including that front right corner...). pulled back out the bench top, and flipped the lever, in came the water...in the water heater, NOT the trailer...Still no water to the faucet, I went out to try the out door shower and Raymond, the trailer expert he is (NOT) told me that I should try more than just the shower...my temperment was NOT the best and at that point...well just say we ate breakfast at the rec hall (provided by the campground for Father's Day) in silence...he suggested that I turn on the gass and the DSI Switch, hey made sense to me...nope still not hot water, even when the hot water was REALLY hot...

I am going to post this in the mr. fixit...maybe I messed up my fitting???

I moved on after throwing everything into the camper, to Tall Pines Harbor, where Raymond joined me.

Sounds like you had a memorable time!  The pitter-patter of little feet and the song of children playing.  :)

There is a swimming beach at Lums Pond that is open.  I've personally never swam there.  I stick to the bike trails and short kayak rides.

I've got a problem with my water heater too.  For some reason it won't stay lit.  I took apart and cleaned out all the lines (because of possible spider nests) and it at least lights now.  However.  Once lit, the burner goes out after only a few seconds.  It's driving me nuts.  I was told to take it apart and using a can of Air, (because of the high pressure bursts) blow out the lines.  I'll see if it works.

I should ask in Mr. Fixit too, maybe someone else has a suggestion.

I've been lucky with "my flick my bic" water heater on the Bantam.  The wind has blown mine before.  I learned I had to stand there and hold the button for a long long time on that one or it would go out. I would also have to hold the flame there for what seemed to be forever, but once it was really lit, it was lit.
