Hello All
I am in the process of fixing up a 1993 coleman chesapeake and noticed that
the propane tank is to old to be refilled and has the old style valve.I looked at the tank on my gas grill and it appears to have internal threads that would fit
the conection on the trailer.but the sealing surface looks different.Do I need some type of adapter or do I have to replace the regulator?

thanks Sean

You might want to consider just trading in your old tank for a new one. Home Depot has tank swap and they seldom check to see if you are turning in the old style.

You should be able to just swap out the tank. :)

Hey there,

YES! trade it in at Home Depot or where ever you can.  There is an additional charge for trading in a noncompliant (older tank) but it is the easiest way to go.

You can also rob the tank off you BBQ and take it camping :) been there done that!

MAKE SURE you trade for a tank that has a valve with both inside and outside that way it can be used for future needs

NOTE: The trade in a tank program is convenient however it is costly around here.  I can take my tank to the local gas station and fill it up for half of what the refilled tanks go for at the hardware store.... As long as your tank is compliant with the new valve you can get it filled anywhere!

Exchange the tank or use the one from the grill.

The 'new' OPD valves work with the old POL connector (presto light/put on left).

You might consider replacing the old left handed POL with a black or green ACME nut connector. No wrench needed to connect. Green is usually on RVs, has a higher btu rating than the black ones on grills.
