Converting a basketball hoop (base) into a gray water tote.

So tonight I got home and was cleaning out my 5 gallon gray water containers (ones that came with the PU).  I looked over and saw my kids basketball hoop.  I noticed the base was exactly like the Blue tote gray water containers I've seen online and at Camping world.  The base is also setup to hold a bunch of water.  The only thing is that it doesn't have wheels or a handle, but I'll bet with a little trip to the hardware store I could put wheels and a handle on it.  Then voila I would have a gray water tote, but no basketball hoop.  I'll bet some of these hoops have wheels and so all you'd have to do is put a handle on it.  I'm going to keep my open for a free one of these that I can use.

Has anyone seen or heard of someone doing this?

From experience, they tend to spring leaks rather easily when transporting too often. The plastic is not as thick as the totes.

Bummer.  But I'm not convinced.  I would like to hear more of your experience.  Did you try more than one?

I did not try it as a tote, but from moving the basketball goal around our drive, it has finally gone to the point of using sand instead of water. It won't hold water anymore. Not from abuse either. My friends have had similiar experiences.

Really, it would make for a potentially great camping trip (and story) by getting it full and then having issues. Be sure and report back to us. It sounds like you really want to try.

I would have to agree, those things are not made for frequent moving.  The plastic is not as durable as that on a tote.  Good thought just not quite the quality you want.

I'll take you're word for it.  I'm sure the blue totes are much better quality and would be worth the money in the long haul.  Now just to make up my mind about which one to get.  The have all sizes from 5 gal up to 30 gallons.
