We are going to Vail Lake Resort July 4 - 6 and are staying in the Lower Arroyo Seco section (basically the back 40 of the campground).  They are bringing in a generator for the weekend so there will be water, sewer and electric.  The cost is $55 for Friday and $75 for Saturday.  A fireworks show will be over the lake on Saturday night and they will have hayrides to the lake.  Activities include a water slide, fishing, mini golf, etc.  If you call to make reservations ask for Marlene (another person tried to charge us $50 more).  Post here if you can join us.

waaaaa  :% ...can't go but maybe a Saturday day trip could hapen..

actually I think the new owners are smoking crack to charge what they are charging..you'll have to let us know if any "grand improvements" have been done or any extra "free" or near free activities have been added..and do they actually turn the heat on in the pool...

did you see they want $110/night for Halloween

Hey Dee,
Come on down (or over)...we'd love to see you guys on Saturday.  Yes, the prices have definitely gone up, it will be interesting to see if there are any improvements.  I don't think there are any free actiivites though...they charge for fishing and the waterslide.  There is going to be a band and a BBQ too.  It's still cheaper than Malibu RV on a holiday weekend but you can't beat that view of the ocean....

It looks like a lot of fun....but, too hot for me.  We still have yet to fix our a/c from last year!  We are doing a block party anyway....renting a waterslide for the kids (and big kids, too).  Have fun!!

Thanks, Lisa.  The waterslide sounds like fun.

According to the 10 day forecast the temps are supposed to be in the low 90's so it won't be any hotter than what we have been dealing with in the Valley this summer.

Happy 4th everybody.  We'll see most of you at Lopez!

We miss you guys. We're camping over the 4th at Pt. Mugu. Have fun and tell Jim I said hi and happy birthday. Go Blue!!!

So, how was it.  Did they doll up the place and make it worth the BIG BUCKS they are asking people to pay to stay there.   I'm anxious to hear how Vail Lake looks now.

The campground is basically the same except they packed in the people for 4th of July.  I have never seen it so full.  Clearly there is no limit on the number of cars/tents that you can put on a campsite. Plus the new management was really messing up on the reservations so there were a lot of angry people in the office.  We lucked out because our campsites at Lower Arroyo Seco were just dirt, no trees and the electrical/generator wasn't hooked up so they moved our three campsites up to Chardonnay Mesa where there was a nice breeze and not so many people.  Our campsites weren't right next to each other but they were relatively close.  Once we were pretty much done setting up our trailer a family came by who had our same campsite number--clearly the management wasn't keeping track of the site assignments!  They went back to the office and we never saw them again...
As you can imagine it was really hot so the kids enjoyed the waterslide which wasn't too crowded probably because it was $10 per hour and they weren't selling day passes because of the holiday weekend.  The pool was packed so we stayed away.  We also decided to avoid the mob scene at the lake for the fireworks so we sat on the grassy area of Chardonnay Mesa and could see them in the distance over the lake which was nice but not ideal.  I think if we decide to return it will be at Chardonnay Mesa in the spring or fall (non-holiday) when the weather is nicer and the rates a bit more reasonable.

I would love to own that campground and show them how it should be run...It's a nice place. sounds like they are raising rates but no improvements are being done, and selling only 1 hr passes sounds like all they care about is making the money...

At least I'm glad you got out of that dirt area with no trees but sure feel sorry for the guys that came in to find their spot gone.........What a very poor job of getting things done and it does look like they wanted to jam the place so they could fill their pockets with $$$$$$$$
I really like Vail Lake and sure wish them luck in getting the job done......Take over Dee....We'll come.......Hahaaaaaa
