I ve tried a couple things to make sleeping easier....
Egg Crate Mattress cover from Wall Mart... helps... But need more..
Plus it makes it hard to put roof Down...

Air Matress (queen) under pad... To ackward...

 Found this:
 http://www.campingrus.net/kinsizdelair.html
  King Size 79"  x 74"  x 5"    Does this fit?
 Coleman Niagara?

Has anyone tried a king sized Air Matress... Thinking of putting that on top of the Mattress pad, then eggcrate on top?  I ll be camping for 4 weeks...

 Joe GleasonHi Joe,
We ve also wrestled with this problem as both Dh and I have bad backs (goes along with eating too well) and we were not comfortable on the stock Coleman mattress. We tried the egg-grates, sleeping bags, etc, etc. Nothing was really comfortable until we talked to some one that used air mattresses. The hint they gave us was to use two twin air beds instead of a king. When one person turns over or gets out of bed the other isn t disturbed this way. We also took out the stock mattress(stored it in plastic for resale time) and put down carpet on the wood bed with the air beds on top. This is by far the most comfortable we ve slept after 12 seasons in two different pop-ups.

Joe GleasonYou know, that makes sense.  Plus your gaining extra storage space with the matress out!

Inflatables are cheap enough that keeping a spare is easy.   I may go a step further and get the memory form 1 or 2 inch put on top...

We also use fans (one with a heating option)... Find this helps cut down the Campground noise.... Then I turn it off at 1 or 2 am... That combined with some quite classical music makes for a nice quite rest!

 Thanks for the feedback!

Joe GleasonI use air mattress on top of the factory foam mattress. They are Coleman Flocked but have a queen size air bed on top of the king foam. I ll eventually find a king size air mattress, but this works.

While I could take the foam mattress out, I have this fear of the air bed loosing pressure during the nite, and would like to keep something half-way soft underneath of me. I guess I ve had too many experiences as a tent camper with air mattress that wouldn t make it through the night! I had back surgury about 11 years ago or so, and I m very finicky about what I sleep on...

 Joe GleasonHi Cliff,
We had the same concerns/thoughts about a possible air leak which is why we use the two twins. It s highly unlikely that both would leak at the same time. We have an unused bed in the pop-up that we would use for whoever had the air leak to sleep on, until we could get it (the air mattress) fixed the next day. We carry a repair kit with us so it s easily done. Actually had this happen during our long vacation this past summer up in Niagara and the repair kit worked just fine and the mattress is just as useable as before.

 Joe GleasonHi Joe,

We too are now using a Coleman Quickbed King-Size air bed on top of the regular mattress. We re much more comfortable now!

Joe GleasonDefinitely glad to hear these comments about air mattresses, which is the way we will be going soon to relieve my aching back and shoulders!  Question:  Do you leave the mattresses inflated when you are away from the PU?  I mean, like in hot weather?  Is there any concern that the heat might expand the air?  Just asking as I have absolutely no experience with them.  Also, what kind of inflation devise do you use/prefer?  Appreciate any comments[:)]

Joe GleasonBought a King Size Air Matress for $39 CDN at Canadian Tire today! - going to try it out... With a " memory"  foam topper to it, then compare it to egg crate foam topper for the air matt.... Figured the topper gives you warms and takes the firm edge off the air mattress!

For that price you can afford a backup... Thinking I ll do what others do and Pull the PU s pad... Leaving more space for Sleeping bags, foam cover and pillows! ...

Joe GleasonWhen DH goes camping with us at Fort Wilderness I think I will have to get an air mattress for him.

Joe GleasonI also use the Coleman Kingsize Quickbed air mattress. The standard mattress in my Westlake just killed my back. I ve also put one of those emergency survival blankets under the mattress to both protect the mattress and to insulate it.

I have noticed that if I inflate it during the day while it s warm out, I have to further inflate it later at night after the temp as dropped.

 Skol...

Joe GleasonAfter waking up on a couple of our camping trips with an aching back, we too now use a King-Sized Coleman Quickbed. We just put it right on top of the regular matress. We now sleep through the night and awake refreshed.
