got woody?

The Mods to Beds thread got me thinking...

At the RV show in Chantilly, VA last week I saw the Coleman Utah and it is now my front runner.  Here s a link to the Virtual Tour inside from the Coleman site:

 http://colemantrailers.com/tours2/03/03utah.htm

One of the things I really liked was the slide out sofa.  kinda awkward for me to describe by typing, but it seems like a pretty simple thing to build.  You can see the sofa itself on the Tour link above.

Wondering if anyone else has ever tried making their own?

Basically its just an extra board between the cushion and the top of your sofa-seat-cabinet base.  The board " overhangs"  the cabinet by about one inch, just wide enough to screw in two poles to function as legs.

The cabinet base below has a wood top (forming an enclosed storage space below your seat).

This top has two grooves routed into it which receive " sliders"  (could be say a good sized drawer pull?) that are mounted to the underside of the Extra Board listed above.

Slide the Extra Board into your floorspace, drop your back cushion down to lie flat next to your seat cushion, and ta-dah!  extra grown up sized sleeping spot!

 So, what do you think?

got woody?Sounds like a good project if you have a PU you are refurbishing.  I ve never heard of someone doing this, but it seems like a reasonable and functional addition to a camper.
