saw this cheaper in a sports chalet catalog, thought it looked neat, not sure if I'd buy one, but I thought I'd see if anyone has any thoughts on how it is..

Seems like overkill to lug that thing along on a camping trip. I will say that if I had a little rustic cabin out in the woods somewhere, then I think it would be great to have and just leave out there all the time.

I have used the little calapsable Coleman oven for 40 years. It's easy to store and it cooks up a nice batch of bisquits in the morning or a tasty apple pie or chocloate chip cookies for desert.

Shame the 'range' puts out so little BTU

Specs: Range 5,300 BTU's per burner, Oven 3,500 BTU's per hour

Guess I'm spoiled with the 30,000 BTU/burner of other CampChef stoves.

By strange coincidence, I just happened to stroll into the Sports Chalet in Torrance yesterday during my lunch break!  The Camp Chef outdoor oven caught my eye.

It's construction and size is similar to a regular Coleman two-burner propane stove screwed on top of a miniature stainless steel oven.

They have two on display, non-packaged, right next to all the other portable stoves.  One was at chest height, and the other shelf above it was at my chin.  The very first thing I did was try to lift one.  They are heavy and bulky with only the integrated handles on the sides for lifting.  I could not budge either one very much on the display shelf, much less lift.

I didn't look at the specs, but those BTU output numbers seem very wimpy for an outdoor stove, ESPECIALLY one made by Camp Chef who are well known for their flametastic burners.  Besides the bulk of the product, for camping and frequent transport I would be concerned about the glass.

When I saw it I thought "what a neat idea" but sometimes things look cooler than they really are when you examine it a little deeper

I have looked at the stove/range at Cabelas.  They were too heavy and bulky for me.  I didn't need the burners, I was looking for an oven.:)

We have the Camp Chef stove and it weighs a ton but it really is nice to cook on we've been looking at that but it's more of a BBQ then a real oven not sure how well it would bake........SurfCampers have one we'll have to ask them how well it would bake things then weigh the bulk/weight and cost and see if it would fit the bill......It might be one of those things we could live without and wonder why we bought it in the first place.....hahaaaaaa

I have one of these, different brand name, but the same thing. It is very heavy but I bought the carrying case to protect it and the handles on the case make it easier to move around. We fixed up a quick connect hose for it and set it up on a table and use the gas connection for the outside stove on the camper. I tried using the Coleman camp over but was never able to regulate the temperature to my satisfaction. This one does a wonderful job for the oven.

Could it be that you couldn't lift this thing in the store because they may have had it bolted down?  The web page says it weighs only 35 lbs.
