I'm wondering about camper covers. I am going to have to keep my new pop up outside and want to know should I cover or not? I have not been covering my current rig but it was 10 years old when I got it and I figured the damage was done. However, the new one is brand new and I want to protect it from the South Louisiana sun and rain.

What's the scoop?

Rain isn't the issue. Your PU should handle the rain quite well. In fact, if you do cover your PU to protect it from the Sun, it may be a good idea to take the cover off during the rain to prevent humidity and condensation from building up inside the PU.

You can buy "Breathable" covers and they are great but I'd still remove it on rainy days. Let the camper dry in the Sun, then replace the cover to protect the finish. If you live in a windy area be careful of the cover doing more harm than good. Covers are a catch 22.

IMHO, it's better to make a small "Carport" for the PU. That way, you get the best of both worlds. It's almost as good as parking it in the garage.

I should have noted, I have to store it at an off site storage facility due to restrictive covenants. (Ah suburia) So a carport cover is not possible.

Do you think that they may allow something like this?:

I have seen them in all sizes. You could cut the legs shorter so that it just covers the camper, then tie it down to the camper so that it doesn't blow away. It wouldn't take up much more room than the camper itself. I would imagine that your spot is at least 9' wide.

When we had our popup, we parked it outside and it had a large shade tree hanging over it.  My dh put a few milk crates on the roof and then covered it with a large tarp.  Then bungied the corners down so it didn't fly away.  It kept the popup clean and there was plenty of room for air to circulate inside the tarp.

JKR jr, I was going to recommend an ADCO cover until I realized you are located in New Orleans which is on the southern tip of there central zone for their SFS AquaShed cover.  If you go down this path you might want to give them a call and confirm that it would be OK for New Orleans.

Hope this helps.

I use this one from Harbor freight and really like it.

I didn't cut mine down, but I think that's a great idea.  My brother took one of the big 10x20 Costco ones and cut it down so his boat would just fit under.  That made a real nice garage.

When I bought my PUP, the dealer said not to cover the PUP with anything. The owners manual said the same thing. Called Jayco and they said the same thing, do not put a cover of any kind over the PUP. I would check with your owners manual or call your PUPs customer service to see what they say or would reccomend.

My manual reccomends garage storage or other shleter, if possible, or cover with tarpaulin or plastic.

PU manuals have different recomendations?   :sombraro:
