Hello all,

I have a 98 Damon Camplite 2408 SLE.  I purchased it last year (summer). and have been camping a half-dozen times.  Travel with it is noisy and I attributed that to wheel bearings.  I cleaned and repacked my bearings and introduced the reason for my post.

On the one side, I jacked the trailer up behind the rear wheel (tandem axle).  This works really well as it lifted both wheels off the ground.  When I went to do the other side, jacked the trailer up infront of the front wheel.  This tweaked the roof and the rail popped up in the front.  This was alarming to say the least (as there are probably 20 screws that are supposed to hold it down).  I figured I would remove the rail and recaulk it, but upon removing the rail, I discovered that the plywood under it is rotted.  I am not sure as to the extent of the damage, but I can say that I don't think the structural wood was damaged as I just installed an AC Unit (prior) and that had me all over that roof, without sound of creaking or cracking and without a spongy or soft feeling under the weight of the AC and me.

I figured I am going to have to remove the trim, the skin and replace the plywood.  The trouble is that I am not sure where to source the skin (figuring that it would be good to replace it as well).  My local RV Shop said that they cannot provide roof parts, only completely assembled roof structures.

Does anyone know where I can get the roof skin for this repair?  I am not in a position to replace the entire roof (too costly, and my camper has not been made in several years, not to mention that the Camplite name has changed hands and been dropped all together since mine was built).

(Sorry for the novel)

Good Luck!

I had my roof replaced (entire).

If you are unable to find other 'skins', you could probably fiberglass coat your roof.  It's been years since I was involved in a project like that (re-did a boat bottom), but vaguely remember a kit with strips and the fiberglass paint one mixed and painted on to the strips, or soaked the strips and placed them on the unit.

There are metallic (lack of better terms) roof paints which might meet your needs.  Spend a day at Home Depot/Lowes and investigate further.

If you don't mind my asking, how bad (cost wise) was a entire roof replacement?

Ive been doing research on roof repair on my Skamper and have found several people repairing your type of side boards. Many are useing FRP panels, Fiberglass Renforced Plastic panels, for the skins over new plywood. Get them from Lowes I think. Main use for FRP panels are covering restroom walls, maybe above shower surronds.

My roof is made a differant way. Camper& Recreation said they had to have the camper on site to make one custom. Didnt offer a price. Im just going to reseal with EternaBond and hope it last a few more years. Scrap it if it dont.
