Leaving the PU/TV hitched for a long time

On my last trip I left my PU and TV hitched overnight (twice).  I wonder if that is bad for either PU or TV?  How about if I were to leave it hitched while camping?  Does anyone do that?

Sometimes I've hitched the pup up the night before, so that if making an early start we can just hop in the tow veehicle and leave. All I've done is just keep the front dolley jack on the pup down to keep the weight off the tow vehicle hitch. Of course you need to remember to crank it out the way before you drive off in the morning :)

I don't see why you couldn't leave it hitched whilst camping if you are on level ground and not planning on driving anywhere. Again keep the dolley down. Of course might be a pain getting stuff out the back of the van/suv if you have a tailgate.

We usually have bikes, kayaks etc, so always need use of the van when we get to a site.

Can't do it with ours because the front bunk extends waaay past the hitch.

But I don't see how it could hurt if you're mindful of a couple things:
1) Disco the PUP lighting harness, so you're not also draining the TV battery...if you have a harness set up to charge the PUP battery while towing.

2) Put down your front stabilzer jacks (and the "dolly wheel" as mentioned above) to not only unload the TV rear suspension, but to keep you from putting loads on the front PUP frame that might bend the frame in relation to the hitch "A" frame.

This is something I've thought about many times but never have done. I have hitched up the night before to save time in the morning but believe that with the TV and PUP hitched, leveling and stabilizing would be difficult at times so I just un-hitch and leave it at that.

I'd love to for overnights but can't.

There is one thing to be aware of. If you need to lift the front of the trailer with the trailer tongue jack, to achieve level, be careful not to add the weight of the tow vehicle to the weight on the jack. If you over-load the tongue jack, it could be damaged.

You might not want to have the PUP trailer harness connected to your tow vehicle until you are ready to leave.....if your PUP battery is low, and the propane leak detector is drawing....you could have a dead tow vehicle battery!

I have left the tow vehicle hitched to the camper for quick set ups and overnight stays. When campiing at bicycling events, (often in aphalt school parking lots) I don't have the refrigerator on, so level is not crucial.

I removed the fuse on the charge wire so I mine won't discharge.
