The placard on my PU says it was manufactured 9/2005.  It was sold to me as a 2006.  Is this normal practice?  When does the date of the PU get assigned? Do they round up?

It's the same as buying a car. They start building cars (and campers) for the next model year usually in May or early June. Cars typically get introduced in September and campers get introduced in July/August.

The date doesn't get rounded up.  The manufacturer decides what year a trailer will be.  My 1999 Coleman Nevada was made in 1998.:)

The date on the plaque is the date that the frame was built. That frame may take quite a bit of time in production and storage before it is shipped to the dealer and then it may sit in the dealer's lot for several months.

You may find 2009 Class "A" motorhomes that have a build date of 7/2007. That is the build date of the chassis (Frame, engine, drive train). The chassis could sit in storage for a long time before production of the Motorhome takes place.

Okay, thanks.  That makes sense.  I just wanted to make sure I was getting what I was sold.

I actually bought a new 2006 Fleetwood PU in in 2007.  And when I picked it up it was clean, but not clean like a new car would be.  So now I realize why.  With a manufacturing date of 9/05 my PU could have been sitting somewhere, likely outside, for almost 2 years before I bought it.

So that makes me wonder about the age of my tires...???  Anyone?

Same thing with tires. Here's a site that you can use to determine the age of your tires: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=11
Also remember the details are only marked on one side of the tire so you might have to crawl under to read the information.
