Well as summer approaches, and the economy continues to decline, our family has decided this will be a summer of camping close to home.  We normally do at least one big two week trip every summer, but are not comfortable doing so this year.

For those of you who usually take long-distance trips, what's the plan at your house?  How will your family camp this summer?

OC Campers

We haven't changed any of our plans.  Camping is our primary rest and relaxation.  We have (2) 1000 mile round trips planned this summer.  If we had more vacation time we would do even more.

Well, we had big camping plans but due to being laid off those have evaporated. Hopefully we can still get out locally a few times.

Early June thru early Sept is hard for us to do any camping.... I run a kids summer camp so taking any time off during my busy time is really hard.  This year however I'm hoping to figure something out for the 4th of July and then maybe something the last week of August.

have at least one trip a month planned and a 12 day trip that's 800 miles round trip, not including all the day trips. This is  a family vacation and College road trip combined. Had this trip planned last year, but had to cancel due to medical reasons. I think it will actually be cheaper this year as gas is half the price.

Sticking with the plans.  Grand Canyon (1,200mi round trip)for a week, in August, as we've done the past 2 summers, and Sequoia Nat'l Park(500mi round trip) after that.  We're also talking about trying to get into Yosemite, but that remains to be seen.

Fuel is about a buck/gallon less than it was last year (in August), so if that holds out, it'll certainly keep the costs down some.  For example, that's $110 less for fuel on the GC trip.

Retired this January so our camping will increase this year.  We have three 3 days trips planned and booked and two 8 days planned and booked.  More in the planning stage.

We mostly dry camp on private property which the pup stays on most of the summer.   Still an inexpensive way to get away for the weekend.

In the past I've been a weeknight camper, but am babysitting part-time for my daughter during the weeks, so this might be a little 'iffy'.  Sure hate having my wings clipped.

So far i have booked almost the same amount of nights than i camped all of last year. I got 11 nights booked from March to May. I camped 14 nights last year! It going to be better my son and DIL and Granddaughter have there own camper now not as packed in mine. Seeing my Granddaughter outside and enjoying it make me happy!!!!! I hope to make it about 20 nights camping. Still got June,July, August,Sept,Oct,Nov and been thinking going camping for New Years!!!!

We camp close to home anyway so no change for us

Put down camp as we always have, no other option appropriate.  We're planning a 4,000 mile, 3 week trip this year, longer and further than we've traveled to date.

We'll go somewhere "big," like we usually do. The cheaper gas will be a help. So far we haven't decided on our destination, but we're considering going "really big" and making this the year for the Grand Canyon!!! Some other possibilities are the Blue Ridge (again) or the Canadian Maritimes.

We are planning our first big trip.  We usually stay within TX, but this year we are planning a 15 day trip all the way to Washington DC and Williamsburg VA.  While enroute we will make stops in TN and do a little white water rafting.  It should be a fun adventure.   :sombraro:

Doing my 3 months in California's Trinity Alps at Old Lewiston Bridge Campground May through July. Great fishing, hiking & relaxing,
Then August trip to Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park, Mt. Rushmore & Yellowstone. A full summer!
