"Almost" is an ambiguous word........... :D

I check mine when winterizing, and will replace if needed, so for me its an annual thing.  Did go 2 years without replacement.  Some folks extend their anode rods life by draining the water heater between trips.

I drain my tank after each trip. I have a new one ready to put in when I drain the antifreeze this spring.  This will be my third year  and I haven't looked at  it.
Curious to see what it looks like.

In case anyone is interested.....the anode is should be replaced when it loses 70% of it's mass.

3 years on that rod, checked it 1x the first year. We never drain the tank as we camp year round but now i'll check it yearly, cheap to replace.
