This isn't RV related but I thought I would ask here.  My sons Cub Scout Pack wants to go to Irvine lake in spring.  I looked into their website for the CG and its first come first served??  And kind of expensive I think.  $15 for a site but your HAVE to pay the fishing fee $22 per adult $11 per kid.

ANYONE been here?  Is it worth it?

Is there anything close by we could use and go to the lake just to fish?

THANKS!!

Shayne fishes Irvine lake all the time.......... at least once every couple months so I know the fishing is good......... he's already off to bed right now so I'll have to ask him tomorrow but I think I remember him saying the campground wasn't nice at all.... hahah or in his words "it's poop".  I remember asking him about it cause he fishes there and I thought it would be nice to see about camping.  I'll confirm tomorrow for you ;)

I 'm not thinking it's great. I have been to Irvine regional and it's ok. I think you can get site reservations. Griffs may know better.  I can always swing by there next week before Prez weekend and take pice and stuff. just let me know if you want me too. I can't do it this week I have to get everything ready for the regional compitition

We been a few times with boy scouts, they have alot of events they sponsor for scouts and sometimes free, check with the orange county council for dates, they have fishing derbys just about every year, fishing the lake is hit and miss, for the young kids they have a couple of ponds they can almost catch everytime,  last two trips everyone caught two to five each.   O'neal regional park is near by some love it some hate it, we have had good trips there group sites work out well for scouts and if you offer a small work party for the place they often put you up for free,  I.E. trail work ect.  If you do try and camp there ask about special pricing for scouts, it's best to call they try to work with us and do alot for the youth groups. Hope this helps.

Dee,

Has Irvine Regional Park added camping?? This is would be great if they have.

As for Irvine Lake, which is completely separate from Irvine Regional Park and not part of the county parks system, here is a link to the Information Page for camping there.

So, yes, it is $15 per night for up to 6 people on a site, PLUS $22 per day mandatory fishing license for adults and $11 for ages 4-12. (13yo is an adult here :D)

Camping is totally unreserved, first-come, first-serve, with no hookups and no dump station.

O'Neil is just 10 minutes down the road and it's decent enough for us to have had rallies there. I've been tempted to take the kids fishing at Irvine Lake, but the campsite looks like a wind exposed, dirt lot from what I can see from the road. I can see doing it if you had some serious fishing on the brain and had a need to be first out there. My idea of getting lucky fishing wise is to have friends and relatives go do that and bring me back a fish or two...

Irvine Regional Park? The horse, choo-choo, paddle boats, and mini-zoo place? Camping there? It's not listed on ocparks.com. I wasn't aware that you could, and if you could would you want to?

Sorry I forgot about this  :eyecrazy:

Shayne said what he saw when passing through the campground was dirt and thats pretty much it.  Very little trees and shade..... but maybe this time of year that wouldn't matter so much?  Anyway he didn't have much else to say about camping there since he's never done that there.  He also said the fishing is hit or miss....... depends what your using to fish etc.  Of course thats logic I guess

Good luck with your adventure!

PS:  In March every year we have a really great local fishing durby called "Huck Finn" its in Sierra Madre... next door to Pasadena.... its an awesome event for scouts and families :)  I'll post some info about it!
