It's that time of late winter when the year's trip planning is well underway and going over the camper to-do list, checking to see what's aboard and what should be added, and the first aid kit update is on the list. As this little article states, not always the first thing on anyone's mind, except when it's really needed.

Wondering what "special" items that past experiences of board members here have found to be real important to have along.

flyfisherman,

You're right. We all need to make sure our first aid kits are well stocked with all the necessities. I always go through my first aid kit even when it looks well stocked and pull out any medications that have expired. It's amazing how much outdated stuff you'll find. I also make sure to replace older alchohol pads, those things dry out after a while.

We always make sure to have plenty of bandaids, and a variety of medications for headache, stomach aches, diahrea, as well as lotions for poisen ivy, bug bites and stings, burns etc.

I actually restocked mine this past October prior to a camping trip.

we carry liquid benadryl, as I have no idea if DD is allergic to bee stings or not.

I noticed there was no burn ointment or treatment in that kit, even the smalles kit should have that.  Also, we take along steri strips in case of a deep wound. We bring our kit inside so none of the stuff freezes over the winter. In the spring I go thru the house and travel kit and replace what needs replacing.

Also for those who camp with their pets, a few added items
like vet wrap and a first aid book for dogs. Or print out your own reference
