Can anyone give me pros/cons of Camping on the Gulf vs Topsail in Destin?  I'm feel like I'm leaning more towards Camping on the Gulf because of the great beach access.  A bit concerned about the length to get to beach at Topsail.  Those that have been to Topsail, do you have an issue with getting your cooler, beach chairs, umbrella, sand toys down there?

I agree Topsail is more of a true campground with trees, etc.
Any photos of Camping on the Gulf upper park section would be great as well.

Thanks,

Hi there.
We have not stayed at Topsail Hill but I think it is beautiful from the pics I've seen.  I think there is a tram that willl run to the beach from the CG.  If you go onto community webshots and do some searching on Topsail hill you might find some good pics of the sites.  I wish I could remember whom but there is an album on the site in which they literally took a photo of EVERY site at Topsail Hill.

We did stay at Camping on the Gulf RV park last June.  It is typical RV park versus a state park...both good and bad.  I'm more the state park kinda person so I'd rather have stayed at Henderson Beach but it was booked.

We stayed in the Upper Park near 1 of the bathrooms.  they are clean and "family style" meaning a room with shower, toilet, sink, etc.  I think the bathroom had 6 such areas in it.

Sites in uppper park are paved concrete, full hookup, CATV and level.  We were 1 of 3 PUs at the CG and the rest were 5ers, Class A, etc.  Upper park has some trees and shade.   The lower park near the beach is more sandy and open.  They have 2 pools, a gift shop, camp store, etc.  All in all a good place to stay if your visiting Destin.

If you want to see a picture, go to my camping 2007 album on community webshots.  I think I have a couple pics posted.http://community.webshots.com/user/erich0521

Take a look at Grayton Beach State Park in between Destin and Panama City.  We drove through a week ago and it is very nice and very reasonably priced (19.00 a night).  The camping spots are on a lagoon and there is beach access with a bike or with a short walk.
