Just bought our first pop up (yeah!) after camping for 15 years in a tent.  It's a 2000, but it's new to us.  So excited, can't wait to go!  I live in Northeastern MD (near the DE/PA/MD corner) and we were looking for great campgrounds within a resonable distance (few hours).  We're not into the pools and cable TV and that fuss.  Hubby likes to fish, kids like to hike and enjoy the outdoors.  Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings, and WELCOME!!

For a start, try Delaware's State Parks--Lum's, Killen's and Trap Ponds.  Great camping and good fishing.  Cape Henlopen and Indian River for salt water fishing and beaches.

Tuckahoe State Park in Maryland are good too.  And Elk Neck.  And...

I'll let the PA folks chime in with their favorites.

And check the COTOC forum, right here on PUT for lots of trips close by.  Next scheduled trip is French Creek State Park...

Thank you both for replying... Chip, I made a list of the campsites you suggested and I've been all over the internet checking them out.  Thank you for taking the time to respond.  I was already eyeing french creek because the pictures look so great.

HVAC & Chip... what is all involved with this weekend at French Creek?  You have my interest up and my mind is scrambling to figure out if we could go!  It sounds like alot of fun.  And what better way to take your 1st trip in a pup then surrounded with help for when we can't figure something out!  LOL.  I've have to convince the hubby.

I went online to try to make a reservation for French Creek but all of the electric sites are booked!  So bummed.... got the whole family excited enough to say yes... booked.  Next year I'll know to watch for it so I can book early.

COTOC is having a trip to French Creek the weekend of April 17th.  You are more than welcome to join us on that trip or on any other trips.  Oh I almost forgot.  Welcome to PUT and PU camping.:)

I'm new to all of this.. is there a link to these scheduled events that I could go see?  I'd really like our first time out in the pup to be with others who can possibly answer questions if we end up completely dumbfounded by the camper.  Also, I'd love to spy on the others and look for great ideas!

Sure...

Try here.  This is the Campers of the Original Colonies, found on this site.

And here.  Popup Explorer-main forum page.

And, again, here.  Mid Atlantic Campers.

You will likely have to register for the last two-just like at PUT.  Then bookmark the sites...

Hope that helps...

There is Muddy Run Campground in Holtwood, Pa just south of Lancaster.  Really nice and well maintained park, owned and partially funded by Excelon Energy.  $22.50 per night.  electric and water, no sewr hook ups but has dump station.  Large lake w/ good fishing.  Worth checking out.

HVAC - perfect... I'll check them out!  New pup and you're already hosting a trip?  And I thought I was the only one practically jumping out of my skin waiting to go!  But thank you, I'll check out the other site and the list you typed for me.

Treephiz - we love Muddy Run.  We've been going to Muddy Run for two years now in our tent.  Nothing better then a couple hour hike around the lake (and being the only ones!) and then stopping for their soft serve ice cream right before you get back to camp.  This will be our first year visting in a pup.  I just wish they opened earlier in the season.
