Microwave or Convection Oven - Which one?

We are going to add either a microwave or convection oven to our cooking options.  Which one would you choose and why?

Thanks,

AustinBoston

I'd choose neither.

We have several Dutch ovens, and they work fine for us.  I know this is useless to your question, but I just had to say it.

Given the choice I'd choose both. Get a Micro/Convection combination oven.
If this is for the RV your choices may be limited.

Given the option, I'd go for the convection oven.  I'm assuming here you mean a convection oven that's mounted in your camper and has it's own burner like in your house, not one that is passive and sits on a stove or campfire for heat.  That would work off your on-board propane, making it available at all times.  The microwave would only work if you're plugged into a power source.  If all your camping is in a campground setting where they provide electricity, no problem.  But, if you're like us, you'd spend much of your time in National Parks or dry camping...no electricity, no microwave.

Do you plan to cook or heat up food?  Do you have both at home?  Which one do you use more often at home?

At home I have a combination convection/microwave oven and find most times I use it for microwaving (reheating).  I've only done one 'meal' in the convection oven (to become more familiar with it), and haven't seen the need to use it.

I like a pressure cooker for many meals at home or camping - cuts time/propane use, and can reduce cheap/tough cuts of meat to fork tender (falls apart).

My PUP has a microwave, which I never thought I'd use when camping, but the first time out, it got used to heat the grandbaby's food and it's been used regularly ever since!  I think I'd go with a microwave (probably cheaper than the convection oven too).

Thanks for your input.  We are campground campers so electricity will be available.

We simply take our toaster/convection oven with us on trips where we'll have electricity.  We set it outside on our table next to the grill.  It's gives more options from making toast/bagels/poptarts to actually baking rolls or heating up left overs.

If it were me, I would go with the microwave because it wouldn't heat up the inside of the pop up. We always cook outside though.
