Adding roof rack

Has anyone ever added a roof rack to the top of your pup?  We've been carting our kayaks on the roof of our tow vehicle and taking bicycles on a hitch rack.  However,  now that are kids are bigger and have larger bikes, the hitch rack won't hold all of our bikes without interferring with the pup itself.  We'd like to add a rack system to the pup to hold one or the other but want to know if that is really recommended and if so, how to go about getting it done.

TIA

We did on our Fleetwood Bayside, was rather easy using the Yakima rack system. The roof has two channels and the claws and crossbars fit right in. We then added a luggage cargo rack and two bycicle upright mounts. The setup is very sturdy and secure. Be prepared to shell out a few bucks though and remember for stuff like this the internet is your friend.
You may also want to check your popup manufacturer's website or dealer to see if they have a preferred or compatible system to get you started with some build ideas.

Happy camping.

I found a used Thule roof rack at a local RV dealer 2 summers ago. I got 3 crossbars and 4 'Big Mouth' bike trays for $100. The only thing I needed to get to make them work was the feet that the crossbars attach to, I got them at a bike shop. It was easy to put it on the roof. It took my son and I about an hour and a half. I used plenty of silicone in the holes drilled in the roof and have not had any leak problems.
The bikes are the last thing onto the pup and the first off at the campground. I could put my canoe on there too. Just make sure you don't overload the recommended weight limit of your roof. I've occasionally seen used roof racks for sale in the newspaper classifieds for about the same price.
There are pics on my webshots.
