Camped here in our Palomino a couple of weeks ago, and it was very, very nice.  Highly recommend you consider dry camping here, as the tent/pop-up loop is very nice -- though if it were really hot and humid I would go electric and have A/C.

The campground is convenient to the rest of the park, which includes a sand and rock beach that the kids enjoyed, and a gentle hike to a lighthouse (which you can walk to the top of).  There are other, more challenging, hikes (see the website), but we had little kids so we didn't do them.

If you are a boater, there is an absolutely amazing boat launch (HUGE) that you can use for $10.  Be warned though, they do not differentiate between fancy power boats and canoes, it is still $10.  Day use fee (but not boat launch fee) is waived for campers.

NOTE:  The water is, well, RED!  I would advise bringing in drinking water.  The coloration is natural and not dangerous, but it doesn't taste great, so I was glad to have brought water.  The hookups probably have the same water (the bathrooms did).  That is the only downside,
